That's what you get with indiscriminate use of drones in other nations without condemnation, now it's the domestic populations turn.
I recall "the first" fully automated drone attack happened the last year or so in Africa. A bit of a stir as people retreating were fired upon ie humans gave up the fight but AI drones did not. So the technology is here and some companies are already willing to go down that road.

I don't think it's a bad idea!
If it's a remote-controlled system then the commander can make better decisions in a calm environment.
If it's an AI-controlled system, then AI errors are less than humans in tense situations.
Most of the Police wrong shooting come from their fear and miscalculation of suspects reactions and potential weapons.

Cops definitely haven't proven themselves to have the best decision making skills over the years. Honestly, not sure where I stand at the moment. The programming will be ultra important if AI. One thing about a robot, it shouldn't be worrying about its own safety.

@Beowulfsfriend Don't worry about this, Luckily robotics parts today are really cheap. I don't think they even consider about active self-defense logic.

They have, apparently, forgotten Robo Cop.

I suspect that this proposal was released to either A) check on amd judge the public's reactions, or B) start getting the public prepared for what is inevitably coming.

@Beowulfsfriend Society drones on. Eh?

Lockdowns.......check
Mandates.........check
Travel papers/ registering movements........check
Automated policing................can't wait!

@puff I went about my life pretty freely. Hiked, or did outdoor stuff, instead of movies so didn't often need a mask outside shopping. Feels like you're exaggerating about those lock-downs, as well.

@rainmanjr As did I. The concept of lockdowns is now an acceptable option to society. Very real in Australia, a nightmare for border communities when whole states isolated themselves.

@puff I don't believe it is. Free people tend to not like having freedom severely restricted. That's exactly what your side represents. Some will accept temporary restrictions but not elongated or severe ones.
