What does the group think of advertising our point of view?

I friend sent me a link to NBC news about 'horrible' people, like us putting billboards from a non-believer standpoint.

Different stokes for different folks. It's not something I would do but I support it. Richard Dawkins or Silverman appeals to some people while someone like Julia Sweeney to others. Whatever it takes to get accepted. Many Christians find the fact that we just exist an affront. Well we do exist and we do have the right not to believe in their invisible friend.

I saw the advertising for this group on Facebook. Never would of bothered to go searching for it otherwise. As for billboards as long as they are above broadcasting l/ advertising standards I don't see why there should be complaints.

I'm a big fan of them, David Silverman of American atheists is one to watch! he's got some great ideas. The best service we can do for our fellow man/woman is to be honest. In a democracy everyone has a right to be heard and the atheist community has had to hide or not be heard for too long. These bill boards are just one way to get theists thinking and the subject of atheism out there. It makes me sad to think so many people are manipulated by religion, things like this are going to help generations to come to either not be terrified by atheists or to question their religions and beliefs.

When you attack an opponent, they immediately put up a barrier and will not listen. I believe this tactic is used to agitate the christian population. It makes all atheist look bad and closes dialog.

It's like the Ten Commandments. Most "Christian" organizations don't post the Ten Commandments because they believe in them. they do it to troll non-theists. And non-theists put up billboards to troll the theists. It's all just trolling. That being said, it does give one a certain guilty pleasure watching Fox "news" pundits give themselves a stroke every time they talk about it.

I've often wondered if the non-theists who post these billboards did some actual "marketing" research the way any advertiser would, if they might come up with something that would work... that could be more than just another divider between the two groups. But for now it's just playing "gotcha"!

I feel, more than ever before, that it's time to start trolling and figure out a way to get us over this next evolutionary hump. We've evolved quite well physically. Our brains have evolved significantly. But "emotionally... intellectually..." we haven't, and we need to if we're going to survive the upcoming crises. And those have to happen on purpose... We can't solve our problems at the level we created them. We need to get above them.

This has been going on for a long time by the Freedom From Religion Foundation. They have billboards titled "This is what an Atheist look like" with members putting their pictures up and a short story or saying. When they held a conference in Seattle in 2009 they got advertisement on buses. One said "sleep in on Sunday". That small statement caused a fury in an otherwise progressive city. BTW, this sort of thing brings in lots of members. Many, who don't believe, think they are an anomaly and hide in the closet. This brings them out. Look at this:

Not my point of view. That is an anti-theist point of view. I don't agree with this tactic. Something positive that provokes thought would be more useful than an attack on a religion.

I have to agree that focusing on secular issues is far better.

If I have to put up with billboards proclaiming anti-abortion, one-man/one woman, etc, they can put up with a couple of atheist/non-believer billboards.

It's all free speech so it all should be okay. Just because you disagree with something doesn't mean you can demand said speech should be stopped (except for hate speech).

I think it's great. Put more of them up. Even more provocative wouldn't hurt.
