It depends on the cause. In addition to those things already mentioned, if it's hormonal acne due time of life changes or increased testosterone, washing with Ketanozole will help (it's an old weight-lifters trick). The prescription dosage is 2% but you can get it over the counter in Nizoral shampoo in 1% strength. Low doses of spironolactone (100-200mg) will help hormonal acne.

I used tetracycline for years for that problem and it worked.

I had that problem a long time ago. Clindamycin really helped.
