I took my Little Girl (cat) In for her shots today and discovered she had been chipped. She was a stray I rescued 2 yrs ago and never thought to have her checked before. The vets office left phone messages at the contact numbers. After I got home the original owner called them and they called me. I called her original owner we were both bawling on the phone. They came and got her. Very nice people. Couldn't thank me enough for taking care of her. We exchanged the history we each had with her and says she wants to keep in touch.

They've taken her and I didn't expect it to be so hard. 😭

Very sad to read of you losing your pet but at the same time very happy to imagine somebody reunited with a pet they probably had thought was permanently lost.

Yes.

A lot of shelters have started chipping just as a recidivism control. One of my boys came neutered & chipped. Took him to the vet as routine before becoming "my cat". Turns out he was chipped, but nobody bothered to register it. Needless to say, 3+ years later, he is mine now & registered.

I'm a dog lover, may not be good advice, just what I do. Get drunk, bawl my eyes out, and feel sorry for my self for three days, go get another one. Will never be without if able.

Thank you!

It's very sad, but you did the right thing. I am sorry you lost your cat. Maybe you can rescue another one from your local shelter? Big hugs. I know it must be heartbreaking.

Good for Little Girl. I'm glad she has been loved. I'm glad she had you.

Thanks.

Of course it's hard. It's like losing a member of your family. Go ahead and feel the loss, it's only natural.

Thanks.

It makes me wonder why she strayed in the first place.

What a difficult and wonderful thing to do! I hope you really get to keep in touch with her and her first family. Bravo!

Oh no! That had to be tough, but you did the right thing. At least it seems you can be somewhat comforted being confident she's in a good home, and that someone else's faith in people probably just got a big boost. Good on you, Bee.

Thank you, everyone here has been great. A big comfort.

Oh no!!! How sad for you. I'm sorry you lost your fur kid. I have three cats, Comet, Binky, and Bunny. I don't know if I could stand what you just went through. I spend time at a no kill cat shelter. I get attached to some of the cats, but they have a pretty strict vetting process, so I know they've gone to a good home when they leave. They won't even put down the angry, hateful, mean ones. We just work with them. I hope you are able to find another fur kid. There's one out there looking for you.

Thanks.

Aren't you required over there to get strays chipped when they arrive?

No.No chipping laws yet.

I had a stray that showed up looking awful - so he was checked by the Vet the next day when I brought him in to be checked. (His neck was sliced open).

But there are no laws. And we often believe it's a feral cat offspring or that someone did a "Drop off".
