For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.”

Charles Bukowski

A belief in God does not answer the Big Questions, so this statement is meaningless. There ARE no answers, pro or con. That's why we're all agnostics, like it or not.

Good point! 😂👍

I am an Atheist...?

@FrostyJim You have answers?

@Storm1752 - yes

@harrison2366, how much of the OP is Bukowski’s? I see no opening “ and my comment will be less kind to him than to you.

An atheist is a person with no invisible means of support. 😂

I have for awhile questioned any "purpose" in our being here. More generally, we are simply "here" to do, or not to do as well as we can for ourselves, and maybe others....

Humans are likely the only species arrogant enough to think we have some majestic purpose, and deserve some eternal paradise.
It’s been my lifelong observation, that we share the same purpose as all animal life forms. And that is to procreate and exist, simple as that.
So go fuck and eat some good food peeps. And be good to your neighbors while you’re doing it….☺️

Just to initially pick at one statement in the post: "I am my own god.".

Yes, that statement is biblical and it is illogical for a person being a God to call themselves atheist or agnostic to imply they do not believe in themselves.

I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are achildren of the most High. Psalms 82:6

Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods"’? John 10:34

What piece of work is a man! How noble in reason, how infinite in faculties; in form and moving, how express and admirable; in action, how like an angel; in apprehension, how like a god!

I don't know what we are here for but it is up to us to make choices and decisions. Gods have nothing to do with it. In case you want to incorporate "free will" BS into this keep in mind that we all do not have the same backgrounds and therefore "free will" is not the same for everyone.

The simplest reality is dog = god!!!

I'll take dogs any day!

That is very poetic.
