To my friends over 65. . There is a huge industry out there trying to scam us
Second, There are two main types of scams.

The first type is someone sending you an address to click on with no other message.
NEVER click on hat address.

The first is someone calling you claiming to be a relative in trouble. I have received two such ca;;s;There are several things you can do to check the veracity of the call BEFOrE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE.

• Ask he person for his or her name.
• Ask the person for his or her birthday.
• Ask the person for his or her mother’s maiden name and her birthplace.
The second type of telephone call is one claiming to be a representative of your bank or an agency you do business with. I almost lost $6,500 to such a call. Here is what you need to do.

• First get the telephone number and tell the person that you will call him or her back. Call he telephone number that you normally use in relation to your account. NOT the number the person gave you. Ask he representative if the company has called you about the issue. If the company did not call, simply DO NOT respond to the scam call.
• Remember that if you bank detects a possible problem, they DO NOT normally call, but instead they send you an e-mail alerting you to the possible problem.
• NEVER give anyone sensitive information over the phone.

I hope that this will help if you encounter a possible scam.

even easier, NEVER discuss money (or anything related to money, like bills or credit cards) over the phone...NEVER.
Trust me, if a bank or credit card or whatever actually has a problem they will pretty quickly send an actual letter.
My health providers (since the shouder replacement) now all want me to pay through email...i tell them i ONLY pay paper bills, in actual envelopes, with checks.
My credit score remains in the 800's....... (my recurring monthly expenses like cable do go through a credit card, and i use Paypal online for miscellaneous orders)

Anything coming from an outsider and offering something for you (in which you did not apply or are entitled) don't fall for it. I prefer to remove items that may be legit over falling for something that is a scam. It only takes one scam to wreck your life.

Why "over 65" ? Any 50 years old can receive such a call.
The problem is to remain cold-blooded enough in such a situation (your "daughter" sobbing on the phone: Dad, I had a terrible accident, I killed someone, they say I have to go to jail, unless you can bail me out....)

Yes, there is a whole underground industry dedicated to scamming seniors.
