I would immediately recognize the voice of any person related to me that called. If you don’t call me all the time, I wouldn’t give you any money.

Good to be skeptical even when they have the correct name.

My grandsons call me often out of the blue, but it's always a facetime video chat call, so I'd be pretty skeptical if I received just a voice call. I did get an email from each of them recently asking for money for their fun run fundraiser. I recognized the school as theirs, it had their names and photos, and seemed legitimate, sent by my daughter through the "orange ruler" system, so I sent money and got a (you guessed it) video call from my grandsons thanking me for the donation. So, it was luckily legit!

I often get one who claims to work for "bank security" . How lame is that ? They had not even got the wit to find out the name of my bank first.

Yet, I suppose if only one person in a thousand falls for it, they get a pay check at the end of the week.

I get emails from banks all the time, telling me there is one kind of problem or another with my account…banks at which I do not have accounts. I suppose the reason I don’t get phone calls is that I never answer calls from numbers not in my contact list.

I've gotten a few calls like that. Often they spoof dial with the number from a local hospital. It's a scam to get money. Next time you get a call like that tell them in a loud voice "Hey boy! You got my money from the last time I bailed you out of jail?"

Nothing is sacred anymore, good on you for being aware. My grandson lives in the Netherlands, so anyone claiming to be him will have to be able to speak Dutch. I'm learning Dutch, I know enough to know it when I hear it.

Similarly, my grandson would not call me "grandpa." He would have used a word from another language.
