Clean Windows, Poor Birds.
I cleaned my windows last week. I have a large picture window in the front and sliding patio doors in the back so you can see right through the house. Once or twice a day I hear a thump on one side or the other from some poor bird thinking he can fly through. They fly away after a few seconds but I would guess it is quite a surprise for the poor things.
I had a mad Cardinal who kept on flying into the windows on one side of my house, it was the same little bird. It drove me nuts. I would go outside with a broom trying to chase it away and then with the hose but to no avail. Eventually it stopped the little thing must have knocked its brains out, but no dead bird found.
You might consider putting some kind of decal or image on the patio doors. Little birds can actually kill themselves, crashing into the glass.
Trust me, they are very often seriously harmed when that happens, but adrenaline takes control and they may leave despite the damage. Could take them a few days to die, plus all the babies in the nest. Find some decals to protect your birds. Amazon has them (search for : "window decals to deter birds". Or, quit washing the danged windows!
they make things to put on the windows to show the birds they arent air. I feel guilty when I see the powdery image of a bird in flight imprinted on my windows
Some people need those window clingers also, it can hurt when you run into a sliding glass door, I know from experience
Did not know this. Just popped on Amazon to look. Don't want the owls since I have bird feeders close to patio doors but also have butterflies and hummingbird decals.
@AmiSue Yes I know how that works, I had 2 masochistic sisters and I was 6 years younger than them!
