Pity the poor mentally ill person being "helped" by what are Church-sponsored Quacks!
One "shining" example: Remember when schizophrenia was diagnosed as totally the fault of the mother?... 1950's, not so long ago!!!
Even that was more more enlightened than the "possession" theory.

The Exorcist and its spin offs represent what is, in my opinion, the most odious, pernicious, and useless genre of film ever invented. Because they reach (and rot the brains of) so many people, these films are almost as damaging as the actual practice of exorcism.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez gives a masterful treatment of an exorcism, and the superstitious thinking from which it sprang, in his novel, Del Amor y Otros Demonios (Of Love and Other Demons).

My opinion of the Catholic Church cannot get any lower.
