That is the point, he is loved because he tells lies.
Well, I do remember one time when he talked about how much he loved a particular chocolate cake.
Then there was also the time(s) he said he' want to 'nail' (fuck) his daughter if she wasn't his daughter.
A little more murky would be when he said the Nazis were 'good people', not because it was true, but because he believed it to be true.
