I saw a posting not too long ago, saying that it was hard to figure out what was true these days, with all the wild claims being thrown around. I think the real challenge is not being able to sort through the facts and logic, and figuring out what is true, but rather, looking to your soul and asking do you really want to see the truth.
We see ourselves as truth seekers, who take in the facts, sort it out and arrive what is true and what is important, but I think the way most people operate is very different. For most people they take in the facts , then figure out how to fit the facts into what they want to believe, based on their emotional needs, then try to make it seem as rational as they can. So the real challenge is being able to see the truth, no matter how if feels. Recognizing and transcending your emotions. It's not so much a matter of can you know the truth but rather do you want to know the truth.
A scientist never knows what the truth is before he/she sets out . They may know what it might be from the work of other scientists [that is why scientists work co-operatively]. so it is not a question of acheiving what he/she wants to find but rather an attempt to prove the work of the other scientist. If you are the first to attempts a solution to a problem then obviosly you deserve the most keudos, but it is a long hard wait until some other people check everything about your work and that of others . So facts are not easily come by.
Then if a new theory is formed , you may have to start all mover again
If you have ever done any original work and are convinced that you have satisfied a whole crowd of people you will know how hard it is, Verifyingg a fact is becoming harder and harder ,mostly because of conspiracy theorists pseudo science.
I do not think that philosphers will ever match the care that scientists take , becuse basicall they do not have to prove anything although they do get røund to some wisdom.
Looking into the soul could be a stumbling block in and of itself let alone individual bias.
For en sics pennyworth suggests that truth is often irrelevant.
Why exactly do you expect to find a soul? Have you invented a new machine?
The only machine I have is the one that read and comprehends the reference to a soul in the original post, you?
My insurance lady and I are great friends and she is one that always says it is hard to figure out what is true these days. She is also a Trumper and a Republican but she denies it. I often tell her that we are all people that are pretty much the same but we have different social media sources. This is it in a nutshell. Search for the truth rather than what you want to believe.
Most people believe what they “want” to believe, regardless of “facts”. This is why we still have organized religions in 2023…..
SAD case
My truths are built on facts, howsoever uncomfortable I find those facts to be.
I do want to know the truth, even if it's uncomfortable and doesn't fit with what I wish the truth to be. I am strong enough to adjust my "beliefs" accordingly. It's only through knowing the true facts that one can make the best choices going forward and not be taken advantage of by those who wish to keep us in the dark. Learning the truth, might lead to more questions, but for many of us that quest is more life affirming than being suppressed by comfortable platitudes.
Yes, exactly!! People believe what they want to believe... so if they like a story, they accept it as truth because it fits in with their core values and belief system. But if they are truly interested in the truth, they will fact-check or verify. If through fact-checking I find an article someone posted to be untrue, that causes them dissonance, so they reject it and question the veracity of both me and the fact checker. We've all been there.
Fact checkers are media controlled, who is doing the fact checking? Duh
@Communistbitch Everyone and everything is media controlled but you and the orange turd I reckon!?
@Buck Trump is communist too
@Communistbitch You’re too stupid to know you stupid…..
@Communistbitch If you read enough, and do your research, you learn who is truthful and who is not. At some point we find some sources we deem trustworthy. But to have just one source for your information and consider that source to be gospel, then you're robbing yourself of your own awareness.
@TheoryNumber3 name an instance where initiating force is acceptable. It's not initiating force if you're using force to defend yourself or others. If you believe initiating force is acceptable and moral, explain why
@Communistbitch WTF are you talking about? Never mind I've heard enough of your ranting.
It is only when they try to convince someone else of an invalid belief that the trouble starts .
@Communistbitch That is why you should do your own science which enables you to fact check, hopefully with a trusted friend to keep yopu on the straight and narrow path.
You're just saying that to fuck with my belief system
You must be one of those Republican Christians!!?
Absolute monarchist Pastafarian flat earther if you must know
What belief system is that? There are so many
@Mcfluwster "We are Jehovahs burglars and we are persecuted by the state because of our beliefs"
"What do you believe?"
"We believe there are valuables in this house"
To quote Jack Nicholson, “You can’t handle the truth”!
And yet, he was wrong
@Communistbitch And yet you’re a dumbass?!
@Communistbitch He was a good "Putter down'
