They are therefore very wise. Common sense is not science.

St John Gogarty was rather scathing about Jews too…to the point of being an outright antisemite. He was himself a privileged member of the Irish educated class, and I assume he was referring to the lower orders of the less privileged Irish working classes when he made this remark and not to himself!

Thanks for the link on Gogarty. Very interesting man. Too bad he had some of the views he did.

@Redheadedgammy Maybe those views came from his experiences, who knows.

I am of Irish decent and I never understood why many of us harbor fantasy dreams about "The Old Sod".

I never had, nor now have any desire to visit the place, and obvious from my presence here, I'd make a very poor Irish Catholic.

Ireland is a most beautiful country to visit.

@Jolanta I've seen pictures, some are beautiful, however I have no desire to see the place.

@Alienbeing Do you have any desire to see any place on earth at all?

@Jolanta Yes, and I already have. Why would you ask such a question merely because I have no interest in one country?

@Alienbeing And what place is that?

@Jolanta Most of Western Europe, Japan, many Island countries South of Florida.

I disdain putting any one or culture down, but looking at history, this quote seems about right.

It's a sweeping generalization. There less than gifted in all countries across many diverse backgrounds. The only thing I think some of the Irish suffer from is "Irish Alzheimer's" they forget everything but the grudges! ,

According to their legends, and being great believers back then, they say that they turned god down when he offered them Saudi Arabia as their land.. They turned it down when they learned that it was only good for oil & back then you couldn't eat it. Instead they accepted Ireland where potatoes would grow!

Would you like to enlarge on that outlook?

@PaddyO Is your surname "furniture"?

@Alienbeing I do lay around by the pool a lot!

@PaddyO Good for you! I wish I had a pool (and warmer weather).

@Alienbeing The only swimming done here this time of year is at indoor pools. I just gave you the punchline to what's green and hangs around the pool. Cheers.
