@Drank_Spear Adding a little fluoride to water has been a good thing for teeth, false rumors to the contrary. The food pyramid has been a good thing, it has just been slightly modified was more knowledge has been gathered. Eating margarine instead of butter was not pushed by science, but rather by the Federal Government during WWII because we were sending almost all of our butter overseas, especially to Russia. It was scientists who destroyed the myth that it was good for you. Scientists are not in a global conspiracy to rule the world. Don't believe every false rumor that you hear.

I see a lot of correlation between science and religion in this aspect. I could argue about all the good about religion and how at the very basic heart of it, it is good. I would argue that one get outside the basics and it gets into all manner of bullshit. I would argue the same is true of science in that much of what is done and "discovered" in science feeds an agenda and that agenda is rarely the benefit of humanity.

@Drank_Spear The irony is they are complete and opposing opposites, religion(s) and science. One is about knowledge and one is about belief. One requires facts and the other requires faith. But you are correct, both have developed a doctrine for their respective groups. The narc's seem to climb to the top of any group, look at Fauci then any evangelists and their personalities are similarly arrogant, not to be questioned.
There is a snobbery in science which I hate as everyone can utilise the scientific method and do so in everyday life eg observe, measure, repeat results and adapt when new information comes to light. Like pretty well all intellectual institutions, science has been corrupted by the corporate world, higher education another glaring example. Our most brilliant minds end up in the defense industry because that's where the money is.
I also see some correlations with religion eg a lot of unquestioned group think with many proponents never actually understanding what they support. Never actually read the book so to speak. To dismiss those who question official science, especially regarding social issues, is the most anti-science thing you could do. New technologies through scientific advances is all good, but it is how we apply them if we apply them at all is the real issue for humanity. This requires debate, importantly not pure science based debate but also considering human society and all other life. Should we adopt this and how? This is how the agenda should be set. unfortunately, those that fund the research are allowed to set their own agenda.
