Last Monday it rained all day in my area. I took the backroads home to avoid I-44 and the wrecks on it because people just do not know how to drive in rain. They are in too much of a hurry. The biggest traffic obstacle was two tractor trailer trucks that had collided and appeared almost demolished when I viewed them the next day. The cab and everything was so far gone that I wondered if anyone died. I also found out that a town called St. Clair had multiple car pileups in another wreck situation that Monday.

On Tuesday I discussed this with a businessman I deliver auto parts to. He is inclined to believe Q-Anon type stories. It was hard to believe what he told me. He claims the big companies are now hiring illegal aliens and others with no skill in driving tractor trailers, and even uses them if they have the wrong license or no license. He says this is all because prices are so high now and it is another reason we have to stop our border with Mexico illegals. In disbelief I told this story to a man I work with that same day. Both men are strong Trumper and GOP men but otherwise they are different in views. My co-worker told me the first man was exactly correct. That is what is happening. I did not reply and it ended the subject.

This next part is where I ask any of you reading this to think and use your best cognitive ability. High prices cause trucking businesses to hire and employ someone not qualified to do the job in the first place. Next to impossible because their own insurance would not cover any losses this way. You just hire the illegal, pay him less, and put him in the truck taking a big gamble. It does not even matter if he has no license. Oh, yes, that is how high prices are going and what caused all this starting with illegal aliens at our Southern border. If you really believe this I cannot change your mind. What I can say is that I know what to do when Taylor Swift announces "she is voting BLUE and you should too."

Any thoughts?

Our economy would collapse without immigrants. They take the shit jobs that many Americans wouldn't do. Several of the victims who died in the recent Baltimore Bridge collapse were hard working migrants from Central America who came here in search of a better life for their families and to escape the poverty and violence of their native lands.

2

I worked in Logistics for 35 years. Improper driver licenses or lack of will get a company shut down. Each state has numerous weigh stations where drivers, their equipment and the freight they carry are checked by DOT staff. If there was an accident, same thing, then insurance companies get involved, clients find out. Big twubble.

4

If a big trucking company did hire someone without the proper license to operate those trucks (class A in California ) the trucks would be impounded and their insurance company would cancel their policies. This is standard policy across the county because of the DOT anything else is completely fabricated nonsense which only someone with a less than room temperature IQ would believe...

You know someone like @puff who thinks "there might be some proof to it" ...

And you agreed with me idiot. Are you saying zero of the undocumented migrants don't compete for trucking jobs in the US? That they did not drive trucks in their own countries eg what they know?
Not "proof", "truth". All good mis/ disinformation has an element of truth in it.

@puff OK so you outed yourself as a Russian troll because you don't understand English.... I most certainly did NOT agree with you because NO company would be willing to take the risk of being shut down for hiring someone who was

A) unlicensed in the country/state they are operating in.
B) Thereby uninsurable
C) Would run the risk of having the truck and load impounded which would lose them not only money but customers as well essentially putting them out of business.

Trucks coming up from Mexico and down from Canada are all checked at border inspection stations as well as periodically at check points along the highways all across the country for mechanical problems, drivers being licensed to operate the vehicle with all documentation including riders for hazardous loads when required, proper insurance, and drivers logs showing how long they have been on the road...
Here even taxi drivers require a chauffeur's license... Being from outside the country does NOT mean you can drive for a living and if you don't have a work permit from the federal government even Uber can't let you work...

@Lizard_of_Ahaz Let me cut and paste what I actually said as you misquote eg "proof" and "truth".

"I'm sure companies would be legal eg only employ those with licenses. They would lose all insurance otherwise."

Seems to me I covered your points 1) and 2). Point 3 is your opinion also.

And you reckon I don't understand English. Used to teach it, it's 'Merican I have difficulty with as they never mean what they say.

@puff Mostly I find it has an element of Q-Anon mixed up greatly with common GOP Republican beliefs. This is true because they fall for it and then do not want to look stupid, so they mouth it again as if to convince you or cover up. Any honest person knows that the DOT would not allow the type of drivers I have mentioned. Also any honest person knows that "taking a gamble" with expensive products would be nothing but foolhardy.

BTW, the GOP businessman that I mentioned told me during the Covid 19 lockdowns that people overseas knew that the virus was triggered by cell phones using 5G technology. This whacko idea came about because of things Trump said as he wanted Silicon Valley to end up with 5G instead of China. The idea did not work and everyone welcomed 5G as soon as we got it. My WiFi is 5G.

@DenoPenno No different than "windmill cancer..."

@DenoPenno There are conspiracy swallowers everywhere. Yes we have the Q-Anon types but Covid showed none are immune, comes from both sides of the spectrum.
Mostly I agree with you, but there is an issue with migration happening in the US, we can argue all day how serious it is.
I always look for irony and the irony here is this; the reason it has become an issue is because the Biden admin and democrat supporters have denied there is any issue for 2-3 years.

Migrants are getting work permits in some states. Many would have been former truck drivers because it is a common, low skilled occupation. This means they could work legally in the US driving trucks if able to obtain a license (assuming a work permit allows that). lot of "ifs" here, not up with the actual laws. But if the if's play out, they compete with the domestic workforce and if from lower income countries, will work for less and longer hours. Trucking companies are notorious for getting around laws re driving hours/ pay world wide. They would choose these people as employees. A lot got out of the industry due to Covid restrictions. There is some truth to his racist concerns, confirmation bias, your GOP friend. That's the way conspiracies work.
The thing is, until the problem is acknowledged properly without hysteria from both sides, there is little chance it will be solved.

@puff Once again you prove yourself to be an idiot...

"but Covid showed none are immune, comes from both sides of the spectrum"
Vaccines never provide complete immunity they only provide a barrier making it less likely for you to be infected and if you are your body has enough immunity to prevent you from dying or having a severe case that can disable you for life most of the time depending on which vaccine you receive... In the case of the MRNA vaccines that figure is over 90% (documented) and has also been documented as the safest vaccine in human history...

@Lizard_of_Ahaz Utter bullshit. It's not even a vaccine. I'll explain the conspiracy you fell for. Safest vaccine in human history, really? Adverse effects negligible with hardly any reported? Better than the Polio vax, an actual vaccine? Bullshit.

What was the argument for mandating the vaccine? Why kids who were not really affected by the virus? The argument was a wide coverage was needed to attain a herd immunity. Percentage of populations were deemed targets, needed to reach herd immunity. Get the jab and the virus stops, only way we "win" and all that other crap.
But the fuckers knew it did not stop transmission eg catching and passing on the virus. No stopping transmission, no herd immunity FACT. There was zero need to jab kids from a medical standpoint. Risk Vs Benefit just wasn't there.

So how many fell for the conspiracy that getting the jab would protect grandma? You had to inject yourself to protect others? You understand that was all bullshit.

@puff

You just downgraded yourself to moron level and I may well be insulting morons...

"Utter bullshit. It's not even a vaccine. I'll explain the conspiracy you fell for. Safest vaccine in human history, really?

Safest as in approximately 1,500 people in the US population could possibly experience a severe allergic reaction from the preservative used in the vaccine. which is far less than those who might be affected by any other vaccine in the world to date. That is why anyone who received the vaccine was held for 30 minutes afterwards with a supply ready of Epi-pens and as a result there were NO deaths recorded from the vaccine.

"Adverse effects negligible with hardly any reported? Better than the Polio vax, an actual vaccine? Bullshit.""

[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

"What was the argument for mandating the vaccine? "

Why were the small pox, polio and measles vaccines mandated?

"Why kids who were not really affected by the virus?"

This is a stupid myth children are affected by COVID and many died because of the proliferation of that myth as well as others.

[google.com]

Shall I go on tearing every stupid conspiracy theory you posted to pieces or are you going to grow the fuck up and get an education...

@Lizard_of_Ahaz No YOU explain to me herd immunity and how to attain it with a medicine that does not stop transmission. Did you take it to keep others safe?
Thought we were talking world wide. The US had the most deaths from Covid, hands down.
Great google link. I said "Why kids who were not really affected by the virus". I never said they were immune.

@puff
Dumbass read (carefully) and learn.... Vaccines are an integral part of reaching herd immunity and those with compromised immune systems or unable to be vaccinated are often weeded out of the gene pool by natural selection...

"Think of it as evolution in action..."

[mayoclinic.org]

@Lizard_of_Ahaz Try googling "Can a vaccine not stopping transmission attain a herd immunity?" eg [publichealth.columbia.edu]
And here's a definition of immunity for you
[dictionary.cambridge.org]

@Lizard_of_Ahaz Do I need explain that a herd immunity means immune at the same time? For a "vaccine" that lasts 3 months if lucky, not much time to produce, transport, store and administer the jibberty jabs. Logistically impossible in the US. But they tried anyway, knowing those jabbed will still get and transmit.

@puff Because of the evolution rate of COVID you need updated vaccinations for the new strains periodically but the 3 months you are talking about is bullshit...

Do you enjoy looking stupid or are you stupid...

@Lizard_of_Ahaz Stupid enough not to get the jab

@puff Good I look forward to reading your obituary... meanwhile read this and weep about the stupidity of "herd immunity..."

[time.com]

Then remember how many farmers and ranchers have lost all their livestock to Hoof and Mouth disease and Avian Flu...

@Lizard_of_Ahaz You have nothing to teach me about herd immunity. Applied science degree, majoring in Biology. A degree in conservation management. Managing populations. Including by weaponising viruses eg the calicivirus. [agriculture.gov.au].
So I dare say I know a bit more than anything you can google about herd immunities and how they may be achieved. It's a numbers game with the variants being percentages of effectiveness and time.

Immunity is not good enough to achieve herd immunity. It has to be "meaningful immunity". Meaningful immunity means 1) long lasting which means at least 2 years. 2) above 90% effective which means breakthrough infections are no more than one in ten. Breakthrough means it doesn't stop the subject passing the virus on. You account for breakthrough infections as nothing is 100% effective.
Do this and inoculate 50% of a population and you should achieve a herd immunity. Usually aim for 60% to be safe. If you can't get 90% effective, then you need more than 50% of the population to be inoculated. So it becomes a mathematical equation But it gets to a point achieving any herd "immunity" becomes a joke because of so many "breakthrough" infections. So many that with Covid, "breakthrough" became "expected".

No meaningful immunity, then it is not a vaccine by definition, so forget about attaining a herd immunity through a vaccination program altogether with a medicine this piss poor.
Anyone who got jabbed didn't stop the spread or protect anyone, let alone the "herd".
How much you protected yourself? Highly debatable and will vary on an individual basis, pre-existing conditions etc.

"Take the jab to protect others" That the conspiracy many non Q-Anon types fell for.

@puff If you are among the best in Australia then no wonder your country is fucked up so badly... Talking with you is like masturbating with a cheese grater... Slightly amusing but mostly painful...
Personally I doubt they let you sweep the floors for fear you will screw that up.

@Lizard_of_Ahaz Our country will find its feet once yours goes down.
You amuse easily, don't hold back!
Our best get locked up in places like Belmarsh prison, which is why it will be good when the US's demise in foreign affairs is complete..

@puff The ones who usually hire undocumented migrants are the factories, they don't need legal paperwork, these factories pay them cash under the table. They overwork them and under pay them. When Immigration finds out they raid these factories and the migrants are jailed and these factories are left to do business and hire more undocumented migrants. They're not shut down or arrested for doing anything illegal.

@michelle666gar Which they should be held accountable but the corruption in Texas is extreme... Look at how they let Paxton go free.

@michelle666gar, @puff We are getting rid of our problems the Republican party is disintegrating... Besides if it wasn't for the US you would be speaking Chinese already.

@Lizard_of_Ahaz The biggest one who is always corrupt is Abbott! I wish he would just disappear!

@Lizard_of_Ahaz If it wasn't for the colonizers, I'd be fluent in my ancestors language, it wasn't Spanish either! Probably no borders with "illegal" migrants too!

@michelle666gar Same occurs Thailand. Except undocumented are not jailed, they are deported. A few weeks later, many come back.

@puff Here they're jailed and then eventually deported, don't forget we have for profit prisons, so the longer they stay in prison the more money that prison makes, so their paperwork takes a long time to get through.

@puff In Thailand immigrants come for work and companies steal their passports so they can be used for slave labor.... If they complain or someone investigates those companies they are routinely prosecuted and given very long prison sentences. Thailand would be the example you use the country is corrupt as hell...

@Lizard_of_Ahaz Nah not really. Japan, Israel and Saudi Arabia they like taking passports and having slaves. Sex trafficing? Probably right if they have passports. The Thai's cracked down on sex trafficking, so basically all the pedo's go to Cambodia now which is very corrupt.
The thing about corruption in Thailand, it's a known quantity and does not take you by surprise eg if you want something done quick, you give a kickback. Don't want to pay? Wait in line.
In the West we like to pretend Asia is corrupt but we are not. I've come to the conclusion we just hide it better.

I live in a border city and they are believing the lies that are being fed to them.

1

I'm sure companies would be legal eg only employ those with licenses. They would lose all insurance otherwise.
I dare say there is a bit of truth to it, truck drivers not the accidents. Pretty well every taxi driver you meet at Australian airports is from an Asian background, usually Indian, here on a student visa. Because they will work longer hour for less.
Re car driving, it's a generation thing. Common sense regarding road etiquette seems lacking.

puff Level 8 Mar 27, 2024

Last holiday Monday I allowed my left wheels to drift off the bitumen onto the hard shoulder over a damaged continuous white line preparatory to pulling up and parking. I changed my mind and carried on driving. $192 fine for not staying in marked lane. I asked who was endangered, pedestrians - none, oncoming traffic - none, myself - yes from the paddy wagon driven aggressively up my arse end. It wasn't until I'd turned into my own driveway on a street two blocks down off the 2 lane B road that the paddy wagon pulled up & smart arse cop came & spoke to me. He didn't like it when I asked "who was endangered" & then pointed out the aggressive driving of the police. The bloke didn't even know that where he was standing is not an official suburb just part of the town.

Victoria uses such slogans as "the education state" & "the place to be" on the car licence plates - "Ned Kelly county" or "robber town" would be more appropriate with such thievery.

Here in the busiest towns "common sense" seems anything but common. People drive like a bat out of hell. Running red lights, speed limits, blocking the fast lane at speeds less than the limit triggers aggression. They approach traffic lights at dam near the limit, then when maybe two car lengths back they brake hard out of necessity. It like a fecking race to get anywhere you might be going. I don't know if it is selfishness or fear of being late for work/appointment or whatever. One thing is sure driving offensively is way to common. No doubt a huge mechanism to keep auto body shops busy. Hostility lies just underneath the civil facade one is culturally bound to display while in pubic. One day I had a guy pull me over because I was not going the posted speed limit. He was pissed off and he pointed to a speed limit sign and asked me if I knew what that meant. I was probably doing about five miles per hour under the speed limit. I attempted to tell the "gentleman" that the sign was the limit not a mandate to drive at the posted limit. He was so emotionally charged further conversation could only go downhill from there I discontinued the conversation he went back to his truck and sped to pass me. I think he might have been a trump supporter.

@PaddyO Remember as a kid we used to get bored and find ourselves something to do? Doesn't happen this smart phone generation. Just saying instant gratification is normal now. Patience? What that?
It seems to have carried over to driving.
