How do you define spirituality? I've heard many definitions, but nothing satisfactory.

I've enjoyed reading your comments. I was inspired to ask this because I was listening to Braving the Wilderness by Brené Brown, and found her definition of spirituality interesting. This is from another book, but it says essentially the same thing:
“Spirituality is recognizing and celebrating that we are all inextricably connected to each other by a power greater than all of us, and that our connection to that power and to one another is grounded in love and compassion. Practicing spirituality brings a sense of perspective, meaning and purpose to our lives."
As much as I like Brown, I have trouble with that because of that "power greater than all of us" bit. What power? I don't believe in any "higher power" or what have you. Are we talking about some sort of gestalt of humanity?

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. A heart by itself is nothing, etc. Of course this applies to cars, planes, flowers, etc. Is breaking a horse's spirit the same spirit that humans possess? Or is it all make believe to fullfil some need that humans have to look down at 'lesser' species so that when we kill them for food, it's okay? Or the fear of death that something is left of the person after they are dead? Personally I go with my original sentence.

I don't think it can be more defined than just as is already, nor does it need it. If you believe there may be something, but doesn't fit or could be classified by any religious standards, that's okay.

A lot of religious people tend to push back on this, but I think it's because it unrestricts the aspects of spirituality that their religions so heavily push.

Everything a person can see, hear, touch or discuss is the tonal. Everything else is the nagual.

To me it means one wants the warm fuzzies, but doesn't believe in god, so tries to make up something that feels good.

Apparently, of you live in idaho, it means you believe in Jesus but don't like church.

For me, spirituality means connectedness or aw. When I look at a blazing sunset, or sit in a quiet redwood grove I feel my connection to the earth or nature. When I look up at the star filled sky I feel aw at its immensity and realize how small I am - but yet I feel I have a place in it.

Jess Ventura once stated that religion is for people afraid of hell and spirituality is for people that have been through hell

I lean strongly on the notion that what we named "spirituality" is nothing more than that feeling way down deep inside us that knows that the separateness between all things is a secondary condition and that the prime condition is unity. That the body is only a vehicle for what our true being is.....the energy....the will that creates and destroys all things. But then again....it could be pop-tarts.
