I thought I had lost my wallet. Using online banking, I blocked the use of my debit card, checked my account, and nothing had been charged to it. I called to report it as lost. As I expected, I was told to get a new card.
Then, of course, I found it in my car in the only place that I had not checked six times--driver's side, not the passenger side where I always put my purse.
I called my bank back to say that I had found it, and the rep said that I would not have to get a new card after all.
I figured that the card would be canceled right away even though I called back within 10 mins. I can check with my bank on Monday, but does anyone know the procedure for this?
I am just happy I don't have to get a new SS card and driver's license. I never carry cash and I carry my credit card in another wallet--if I lose one, I still have the other.
Happy it worked out ok. The feeling is one of panic. I once put my wallet on top of the car roof & drove away. After I retraced my route at 5 miles an hour I found it on the side of the road. Whew. i don't put anything on the car roof anymore.
I am almost OCD about making sure that I put my debit card into my wallet. I DID put my wallet in my purse, but must not have snapped it. Mea culpa.
Since your card wasn't compromised they didn't have to block the account. They just uncanceled it. If they thought someone unauthorized had possession that would be different.
Thanks! I actually went into town after I posted and used it with no problem. However, I made the cashier in the self check-out stand by me in case an alarm went off and a message saying that a lost credit card was being used blared out over the loudspeaker. (Grin.)
