I thought I had lost my wallet. Using online banking, I blocked the use of my debit card, checked my account, and nothing had been charged to it. I called to report it as lost. As I expected, I was told to get a new card.
Then, of course, I found it in my car in the only place that I had not checked six times--driver's side, not the passenger side where I always put my purse.
I called my bank back to say that I had found it, and the rep said that I would not have to get a new card after all.
I figured that the card would be canceled right away even though I called back within 10 mins. I can check with my bank on Monday, but does anyone know the procedure for this?
I am just happy I don't have to get a new SS card and driver's license. I never carry cash and I carry my credit card in another wallet--if I lose one, I still have the other.
Happy it worked out ok. The feeling is one of panic. I once put my wallet on top of the car roof & drove away. After I retraced my route at 5 miles an hour I found it on the side of the road. Whew. i don't put anything on the car roof anymore.
I am almost OCD about making sure that I put my debit card into my wallet. I DID put my wallet in my purse, but must not have snapped it. Mea culpa.
I couldn’t find my debit card when checking out at the market this morning. Rather than immediately conclude that I should call the bank, I mentally went over my movements over the last few days and decided where I should look for it, as it is usually my habit to immediately put it in my wallet after using. When I got home, I checked the “secret” pocket in my beach wagon and it was there…I didn’t use it, but had taken it to the beach yesterday, in lieu of cash in case I wanted to get anything. I was glad I could recall all my movements.
I will check to make sure that I put my debit card in my wallet several times, but not if my wallet has fallen out of my purse. Something new to be OCD about!
That might work for a debit card, but take my word for it, it doesn’t work that way for your passport.
I don't have a passport, but thanks for the advance warning if I get one!
Since your card wasn't compromised they didn't have to block the account. They just uncanceled it. If they thought someone unauthorized had possession that would be different.
Thanks! I actually went into town after I posted and used it with no problem. However, I made the cashier in the self check-out stand by me in case an alarm went off and a message saying that a lost credit card was being used blared out over the loudspeaker. (Grin.)
