And would the connection between 'church' (no one ever considers what denomination) and state to mean additional tax revenue? In Germany when one registers as being a member of such and such a church one is taxed accordingly. Still, during the services the basket is still passed. Funny thing, many Germans stopped their affiliation with a church simply to avoid the additional taxes.
