My daughter is in this category and it bothers me a lot.
You have my sympathy, brother.
I remember back in the 70s a lot of parents were worried about their kids joining cults (the trappings of which included things like shaving their heads, donning saffron robes, burning incense, selling flowers at the airport, etc.). Looking back, that seems pretty anodyne in comparison to what we have today. The current wave of cultism seems, to my mind, far more dangerous.
Back in the day, there was a lot of effort at "deprogramming." I wonder how successful that was and whether any techniques that worked then might be useful now.
@Flyingsaucesir Things were a lot easier then as we did not have a massive, profit driven media that gains a huge profit from lies.
@pedigojr There was "yellow journalism." But now we have the internet, and social media, and AI, and state-sponsored disinformation campaigns making use of same. Yeah, it's a different world now
