My dog Puck died today. He was a few months shy of 17 years...a good run for a lab/boxer/pittbull mix that normally has a life expectancy of 10 to 12 years. (He went down over the past few days. It was time.)

Told my boyfriend this morning that the appointment was at 5pm. He called his fiancee & she told her boss she had to leave early. They met me at the vet & were with me through it all.

Other friends have called & whether I want it or not, we are having a memorial service for a good dog this weekend. They are setting it up.

The old saw goes that you are known by the company you keep. Looks like I found myself in very good company.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to loose a pet. They are more like your family. RIP little guy

? I'm so sorry. A dog is both friend and family. I'm glad you had people with you to help you through such a difficult time.

I hope the fond memories help you through this difficult time. It sounds as if you have a good support system so I suspect you'll be okay. Best wishes to you.

Ruff. Wufff wuuffer rufff. Arrroooo. Arf arfwooo. Ruffwooarffff.

My dogs and I give you hugs.

Are you ready to share his picture with us, and maybe an anecdote or two?

Oh, btw, I really like using T-shirt’s for my crying needs. Absorbs all the tears, snot, and drool without hurting your skin. And they are big enough to cover your face.

It it tough when I furry friend goes. I lost a couple a few months back. Still saddens me when I think about it but it sounds like he had a good life with you. Many fond memories.

So sorry to hear this. Never an easy thing. At least you had a lot of good years together. I have a black lab who will be 13 in October. He's starting to really slow down....bad hips, glazed eyes.....better stop now.

Sorry about the dog, but not so sure about your boyfriend and his fiance.

We are a poly family.

@SallyInStitches I feel for you.

The most important life lesson our pets teach us is how to say goodbye.

So sorry for your loss. Seventeen years is a long time and your are truly fortunate. Our pets are family and it is so hard to say goodbye. I'm glad you have a good support system to help you through the sad times. Take care and hugs.

Sorry sorry to hear this. It is always hard to lose a creature who is also like your child, my statement as that is the way I feel about our five cats.

maybe best boyfriend ever

Sorry for your loss, Sally. It's hard to lose a good friend like that. I put my 14-year old Collie-Shepherd mix down last August. It too was time but I still miss my furry buddy.
