I think there should be a presidential executive order decreeing "no more executive orders"..... its time the USA got back to having laws be discussed and voted on rather than a single person being able to enforce their will by themselves... regardless if you think the policies put in place by a president are in the best interest of the country or whether you think those policies are just nucking futs doesn't matter, it's rarely a good thing for a single person to just be able to make changes in that scale all by themselves.

Your thoughts?

I'm more concerned about the two party system than I am of a single individual, no matter the position said individual is in. Break up the status quo and maybe just maybe things might improve.

Trumpie would be unable to accomplish anything without them.

That's politics world wide.

I have to agree with you although it is a knee jerk reaction to the idiot who is in office. I also agree with @david1955 So let's hope these years where Republicans blocked everything Obama tried to do and what the Republican party has done in the last year bring out voters in 2018

I have to take issue with with your argument. Taking away executive orders and saying that the US needs to go back to anything is an oxymoron, as they have existed as a power of the executive branch since it's existed.

Also, centralizing power for immediate action is a necessary power to have in government. Bureaucracy is inherrently inefficient. The world sometimes can't wait on paperwork, days of debates, and casting votes. If we did that, nothing would ever get done. In cases where immediate action is needed, limited unilateral authority is a very effective way of cutting through red tape.

There is even historixal precedence for this sort of system, albeit more extreme. The Roman republic had the ability to effectively draft a dictator during times of crisis. They did it two or three times to my knowledge. then once they no longer needed someone to make decisions, they'd go back to normal voting.

Yes, executive orders have gotten a bad rap as of recent, but abolishing something because one person mis/over uses it is irrational and extreme.

I see your point, I am talking more in terms of the frequency of their usage in recent history; they appear (to me) to be getting used at an increasing and alarming rate

I live in a constitutional monarchy, and it strikes me as ironic, if not imbecilic, that someone in a democratic republic should be granted the authority that we long away took away from our kings, queens and any individual politician. The US president now has more power than George III did at the time the colonists decided it was too much.

Perhaps an ammendment to the Constitution.

"We, the people, declare that all Presidential executive orders MUST be signed with a pen containing a single gram of pure nitro-glycerine, so that any time the President signs one, there is a meaningful risk the pen will explode, destroying his hand.

We believe this rule would discourage the President from the casual issuing of such executive orders, for the good of the people."

I agree. Considering who is currently in office, EOs are particularly dangerous. Trump acknowledges that he rarely reads, doesn't want a daily Presidential briefing, and is pathological. Seems impossible, but we may have another president worse than him one day. No one person should have that kind of power.

"Democracy" is a lie and a con trick. True democracy means everyone having a say about everything, all the time.

It can be done too. Telephone voting or Internet voting could be used. It's already used to confirm eligibility on things like the Electoral Register in some countries.

The system we have today is a rigged shop-front portraying the illusion of choice - but it's not a true choice.

The ruling class are in control and busy maintaining a status quo that benefits them.

Right on the nose

You are planning on VOTING in November, and every other election too, right??!

While you are at it, I suggest the following:

  • end the rule that a President cannot be charged with a crime.
  • end Presidential pardons.
  • end the questionable matter that a President cannot be forced to give evidence in court, or to an investigation.

It seems passing strange to me that a country built on the notion of leaving the Old World and the rule of Kings should give their President powers exceeding those even of a monarch.

I salute you; your last paragraph of into words the sentiment I was struggling to convey
