I met a new friend of my wife's the other day and she asked me how old I was right out of the blue, so I told her 'I just turned 57'. She immediately said 'Oh you're just a baby, I'm 59 years old' which struck me as odd, 2 years is nothing in your 50's or your 30's or 40's for that matter. This is not the first time someone has said this to me and I often retort that it's not the years but the mileage which often draws blank looks. Does anyone else get this?

Absolutely. I "feel" more like 58 than 68. I do have to admit, however, although I've never been what you'd call well-off, neither have I faced any major illnesses, nor horrible family tragedies; I have been extremely fortunate in that regard. I do not have any chronic pain, and am on no prescription medications. Supplements, I do take, about 6 different ones, and they seem to help.

I am in my 27th year of mountainbiking, and quit surfing just a couple years ago mainly because of extraneous influences. I'm obviously not as strong as I used to be, but my senses are quite intact, and my reflexes are still pretty sharp. I also maintain a pretty healthy diet; and even though I probably drink a little more beer than I should, no beer gut. It's just that I don't trust the water.

Because of my lifetime health food diet, I look and act much younger than I am (I'm 65), often confusing people.

I learned an attention getter recently, " don't ask how old i am, ask how many years I have LIVED."
