To this day there is a bit of tension between Shatner and George Takei, although Shatner has (i am told) mostly got over his homophobia.

So I was in the Navy for 5 years and like Star Trek the Navy will denote job specialties with colored outfits when on a carrier....
Imagine my chagrin with I realized I was a red shirt..
On the plus side like Scotty I also survived 5 years as a red shirt.
