We might learn our lesson when we stop turning schools into gun free zones. Most other federal buildings are protected by armed security or police, so why don't our schools, they are federal buildings afterall? Look at the city of Chicago, that city has some of the strictest gun control measures in place, and yet look at how many people have gotten killed since then because of such. We need to stop blaming guns for the ills in our society, people are to blame, so let's get to the bottom of why certain people are stressed out and depressed and who would maybe be prone to acting out in a violent manner, and get those people help, that would be a good start.

Not here they're not. And how come guns aren't allowed at the Republican National Convention? How come guns aren't allowed in state and capital buildings? I would challenge conservative Republicans to have all people at the Republican National Convention to come in heavily-armed. I wonder how comfortable Donald Trump would be if each and every individual that came to one of his rallies were all heavily-armed. Guns are like working with venomous snakes. Ask any herpetologist and they'll tell you it's not if you're going to be bit ,it's a question of when you're going to be bit. I don't consider guns to be gods. I'm not comfortable around them and if I had kids I would not want my kids to be around them either. That includes classrooms. I may be fine with a heavily trained professional but not a teacher.

@Kojaksmom There were guns present at the NRA convention, armed guards were present, and same is true with federal buildings they too are protected by people with guns. Guns are not like snakes, because snakes are animate creatures that could react on their own, guns need a human being to operate them. Who in the hell said guns were the equivalent to gods? None of us gun owners worship any firearms. If your not comfortable around them, good for you, I refuse to be uncomfortable around any inanimate object. If some people could go through intense gun training, that means teachers could do the same as well, and to suggest anything else is a cop out. A gun free zone just got more people killed yesterday, having unarmed teachers didn't accomplish anything.

It's obvious as a country we care more about our freedom to own assault weapons than we care about the safety of kids. Ammosexuals refuse to consider raising the age of gun ownership to 21 almost unanimously. Ammosexuals also are against more extensive background checks almost unanimously. And all gun nuts are violently against Banning assault weapons almost unanimously.

We haven't had a school shooting since Dunblane 1996 but at the moment there is a spate of stabbings in the capital; I wonder what the hell is going on in the U.K.
Somehow I think unrest & inequality are to blame - if we had a fairer society we might actually be nicer to each other.

You won't.

It seems we are learning nothing. I listened to the news for as long as I could stand, and as usual, much reference to praying, and god , and all the usual useless BS. Meanwhile ...

How many innocent people are going to have to die before the liberal idiots realize that an unsecured no-gun zone is an invitation for a shooter as it is a soft target. The only solution to the problem is to arm qualified teachers. Only then will we get a handle on the shootings. @Lancer,@SpikeTalon, @NFAguy53

Well said, I agree, thank you for tagging me here.

How are we going to train these teachers ?who's going to buy these teachers weapons? Their salary should be increased because they're going to need more insurance coverage for their families if they agree to put themselves directly in the path of an active shooter. Who's going to determine which one of these teachers should carry assault rifles? Who's going to be the one to formulate their training?

@Kojaksmom I know a lot of teachers who are very qualified when it comes to firearms.

@Kojaksmom
You know, this soultion could cost $0 for the schools if they just allowed teachers with ex-military, ex-police or firearms instructor backgrounds to concealed carry their own pistols IF THEY CHOOSE TO DO SO. This is a personal choice, do teachers want to live and protect their students or do they want to die? We protect banks with guns, we protect office buildings with guns, why not the children?

@Lancer from what I've seen every single person that owns a gun considers themselves a master. Every person who owns a gun considers themselves to be a responsible gun owner. We have more guns in this country than just about anywhere else , and our crime rate should be zero at this point according to you. Teachers are Educators there not police officers. Teachers are often times not very well paid to begin with. Finding teachers with those qualifications is a pipe dream

Why not cut to the Chase and reduce the legal age to 16 to own and carry a weapon. All parents would be required to buy their child a gun and send them to school with it as a means of protection..Let's try that for a while and see how well that does. You Second Amendment gun nuts would approve.

@Kojaksmom
I don't think you understand what certifications or qualifications are. They are usually professional certifications of education for completing courses such as firearms safety, concealed carry, active shooter, etc. Also not everyone considers themselves a responsible owner, don't just generalize an entire group of people with the actions of a few individuals.
I never said the crime rate would be zero, I said that crime is a culturally and socially influenced occurrence. I agree, many teachers are not willing to defend themselves, they do not follow a logical thought process, that's fine. DON'T ARM THOSE ONES. But the ones who value the lives of their students, let them go to work with a firearm if the are qualified and choose to do so. There are some teachers with the training necessary to handle firearms safely to defend themselves and others, they are rare but not non-existent.

Arming the right child would make people safer but due to their physical and chemical imbalances at young ages, they are not mentally prepared to make decisions like this. Even adults struggle to understand the value of life. I do NOT recommend this.

American children and adults are collectively not at a high enough societal level to arm everyone and live safely. This is the way the majority of western nations are, my country included. We don't think about self defense or keeping others safe, this is almost always an afterthought except in industrial and work environments. Every day millions of people go out without thinking about safety. That's fine, they can afford to do that in a relatively safe country. But the intelligent ones understand the risks and hazards that exist within society.

I'm fine with people being defenseless as long as they allow me to be armed. But unfortunately although people like me accept the decisions of people who choose not to be ready for confrontations, the reverse is not true.
