I just wanted to thank everyone for the great recommendations for my trip to DC. Funny story... we got into the city and it was a beautiful 83°out. So we went to Mexican and got some margaritas. Apparently mine were extra strong, lol. We got to the Washington memorial and I decided to take off my 5" heels and lounge drunkenly on the lawn, looking at the beautiful blue sky, gazing at the reflecting pool in the distance and far off, the Lincoln memorial. I wanted to sober up a tad... we could see the skies darken up above Lincoln. Being a Seattle native, sudden summer thunderstorms aren't on our radar, especially with alcohol clouding my judgment. Well, it came on lickity split and drenched us within just a few minutes. We ran barefoot to the reflecting pool but by then gave up on trying to stay out of the rain. It was easily 70-75° so it wasn't cold. We kinda skipped to the Lincoln memorial, took our pics and ordered an uber. We spent the night in our airbnb with Chinese food listening to thunder claps like nothing I've ever experienced. The next morning we ended up having to cancel plans and take a train into Baltimore. We saw so very little BUT we had an experience that I'll always remember.

Back in 1976 ( I was 21 ) I had a wait in DC - traveling by bus.
Thought I'd wander to pass the time.
Got a block away from the station a black limo pulled up, guy asked did I need a ride.
No. Turned and walked. Another guy comes up asking did I want a good time.
At that point I decided to wait in the station.
.
Glad your trip was better.

Great story.... sounds like fun... I left Louisiana to Seattle in February of 72 not 71 like I've been telling everyone. Freaking change of weather was warm to freezing rain. I'll never forget the professional panhandlers at the airport before we left for Vietnam. I gave money for Johnny to send to his sick wife. Geeze how we all fell for that.

@pepperjones. Well.... it really was ice cold and not freezing... I was just trying to expand my experience...lol. You got me.

Imagine spending all that time, and getting nothing out of it

@pepperjones

I've read that pleasure and enjoyment of any kind have a real value, but do you notice that it makes a bigger difference when a person invests in a permanent positive, rather than a momentary positive? It's not like that 24 hours ever comes back, anyway.

Those are the best moments!

@pepperjones
It's never about the sights seen. Always remember the moments. 🙂

@pepperjones
That is living life to the fullest.
