I became an atheist/agnostic in 6th grade when I was sent to religious instruction class because my parents are Roman Catholic. My first class was my last class as I was asked to introduce myself to the class and tell them what I thought about god and the Bible. I informed them that I thought god was made up by wise men to control the population and that the Bible was just a fictional story book designed to teach the rules of society. This sent the nun to the mother superior and the class attempted to throw me out the window. Cost me a chipped front tooth and my own visit to the mother superior who after hearing me reaffirm my beliefs agreed that I probably was a poor fit for Religious instruction. over the years I have tried to accept God and religion but try as much as possible I always come back to the same truths that I formulated as a child. If therei is a god then we have not a clue of what it is or what it’s intentions are. What or how the universe was createdI have no idea. The concept of space and time not existing before hand I can handle it’s the what existed prior that I have trouble getting a grasp on. Something from nothing doesn’t seem right.

Since I was 3 I was always doodling in church and not paying any attention to what the preacher was saying, so they put me in this bible study class thing or whatever it was thinking maybe I would be more interested since it would be taught to me through songs and other things kids seem to like. Only thing I learned was that their snacks were good. We eventually stopped going around the time I was 7 or 8 because my parent's got tired of me whining about going to church. As I got older it just became more apparent that I didn't believe in this god, still find it boring and started to think what a pile of crap it is. So I came out as agnostic in.. maybe 8th or 9th grade?

"Something from nothing doesn’t seem right." Remember that matter can change form. Matter can transform into energy and vice versa. So it might appear to be something from nothing but the whole universe could have existed in undetectable energy form and the Big Bang was a transformation of some to it to visible matter.

When I went to religious instruction as a pre-teen, I was asked, in front of the class, "What is a fast day?" My response- 20 hours. End of religious instruction by the temple and end of religion for me!

Thats almost like a Jewish confirmation where you get up and read your view of god. May be hazardous to your health. May result being shipped to Israel on a Bible Study Tour vs your will.

I’m impressed. The paternal side of my family had been catholic, though that stopped with my dad, I’ve paid a bit more attention to their behavior… Seems to me the way they set upon you was like the romans had with their beloved ‘jc’ ...as he supposedly stood alone speaking ‘his truth.’ ...yes, I’m impressed ~
