Has your atheism helped you to also shrug off any previous limitations or inhibitions with sex, or your sexuality, that would be considered taboo in a socially religious setting?

Never had religion, believed in santa more than religion. And I don't think finding out santa wasn't real had any affect on my sex life. 😉

No, most of it had to do with my own self-imposed restrictions and emotional hang-ups.

Yes. Thank you, Catholicism.

Absolutely ............NOT!

No I pretty much always thought my body was my own and what I did with it had no bearing on anyone or thing but myself or the partner I shared it with. Caused lots of issues being raised Catholic but Dogma is just that. Dogma. As long as you aren't physically abusing someone why should what you do in a bedroom matter.

Actually, it wasn't me being an atheist that did it. It was a sexual encounter that went against everything our society and my upbringing had taught me was wrong, but that I thoroughly enjoyed. After much processing and questioning EVERYTHING I had been taught, I have no inhibitions, and very few limitations. Life is good.

Nope....losing religion didn't affect my sex life, but I can understand how religion can limit how one views sex.

Absolutely.

Catholic ladies were the best because sex was naughty and breaking taboos was great fun. Never had so many laughs and great sex. Taboos are great, well breaking them is.
Protestants were mechanical and no fun at all. Won't comment on other religions in case they come over and behead me.
Never went out with an atheist. I sort of think the fun element would be missing and it would be a sterile experience. Sex should be fun and not just letting off steam ( or bodily juices).
Anyway got to go. Just found a catholic web dating site.

I used to think it was a sin to have sex outside of marriage.

I was raised Catholic and sex was somehow inherently dirty. So was nakedness. And masturbation. Freeing myself from those bonds was honestly probably the biggest change that happened to me in my journey to atheism. I know my experience probably had more to do with my family than my religion, but it really is lovely to finally be able to truly enjoy one of the greatest pleasures we can experience without guilt and shame.

No. I never was religious and grew up kind of feral so all it ever meant was restriction.
No need for that.

Misogyny remains a powerful sexual inhibitor. Women are labelled 'frigid' for not enjoying sex and 'sluts' for enjoying sex, combined with religion's demonisation of sex, women cannot win.

Yes, clearly for me.
Plus, being past the age of wanting children, sex to me is just a pleasant experience shared between two people without any deeper connection which though nice is not essential or even necessary.

What an interesting question! Why do you ask?

Since I've been an atheist all my life, I never really had any religiously-influenced
sexual inhibitions.

5

Nope; I never had inhibitions to start with. I’ve never been a believer, starting early in childhood. Age 6, first time I remember thinking how crazy religion was! Also realized I was bisexual early on, though I didn’t have a label for how I felt til much older.
My moral value was to care for the partner, and to have consent between us. I don’t see, never saw, sex as ‘bad’.

2

Actually no, I've never known christianity to have any prohibitions or taboos when it comes to intimacy. I don't have many inhibitions. For me, consenting adults in private can do what ever floats their boat.

Masturbation came more natural than religion to me and no manual or instructor required. Guess that is my final answer.
