If there is one downside to being Atheist or a non-believer, it is the lack of community and networking. For many, the community and social aspect of their church is just as if not important than the actual belief. Atheist have no meeting places, social clubs or organized activities, especially if you are outside a larger metropolitan area. Where you live, you surely feel very alone, especially as a widow, without a support group. I am not too far away, but I know it is difficult to meet new people if you don't hang out at bars or belong to some kind of club. I do belong to a motorcycle club, but even there it is hard to meet anyone who is not religious. My lack of belief has scared a few people away. We are friendly with each other at the breakfasts and get togethers, but we don't have much to talk about outside of that.
If you would like to chat, feel free to contact me. I am not much of a camper or outdoorsman, but I am open minded and talk too much, a pretty good listener too. And I have a cute dog! LOL

I am not much of a talker, but we can still chat. I do love the outdoors and love to hike, but I broke my leg(tibia) last Jan, and it's still not 100 %

@joantheloon, sorry to hear about your leg. Skiing accident? ? So fat, I have never broken a bone, despite an adventurous youth, years of motorcycle riding and other activities. How did you break your’s? I am not much of an outdoors person. Even going out to walk the dog involves taking a shower in Off. Mosquitoes can find me anytime of day, and a bite will itch like crazy for about two weeks!

@Barnie2years No, I broke it at work. Mosquitoes love me too !

That sounds backwards to me.
Atheism demonstrates some level of intelligence and that is a very desirable state IMHO
Someone saying they're a devout christian would turn me off completely.

That is their loss.

Then those 'lots of guys' don't deserve you, Joan.

They can hardly take you to the church social. ☺

I think some men are threatened because it means you think for yourself and won't "obey" (his) authority. I once had a guy in high school tell me he wanted to go out with me, and would if I would learn and recite the Lord's Prayer to him (my reputation as a heathen preceded me). He wasn't happy when I just laughed at that. I was very happy.

My current boyfriend told me he was OK with me being an Atheist and he wouldn't push his religion on me, yet he keeps telling me I need to read "Revelations" , and he now believes it is the end of the world. He is a Southern Baptist from TX

@joantheloon, sounds like maybe he isn’t so OK with your non belief to me. My guess is he’ll never stop trying to pull you into the pool.

@Barnie2years I just remind him of that and tell him no, he knows that I have a very strong will

This being a non believer website and forum, it should not be an issue. I have no problem with it.

Same here. 3rd generation Atheist. Even some Atheists give me grief for this, since I didn't initially question the faith myself.

But the religion thing, or lack thereof, is a big deal breaker for lots of people here in the South, so finding someone to date has been a challenge.
