I thought their health care was free?
That's not as great as I thought.
Better than the USA though.
Sounds like a wonderful place to live. Well, except for the cold and snow that is......jk
Sweden sounds like a great place to have been born
Sweden is the rape capital of Europe, and if you try to home school your children the state will seize them and never let you see them again [sites.google.com] Sweden is hell on earth.
Maybe true, but if the rapist looks like the above picture I'll have to chance it. No really the source you linked is just some random e-zine publishing. If you could provide me with an actual non-biased source material link I would be interested reading, especially about being , "the rape capital of Europe". Thanks
@buzz13 What happened to Dominic Johansson and his parents isn't a rumor. It is extraordinarily vile and disgusting. As a parent, just thinking about it causes me to feel very angry. [onenewsnow.com]
Whether Sweden is the rape capital of Europe is subject to some mixed opinions. Here are a few links; [gatestoneinstitute.org] [bbc.com] [nationalreview.com]
@doug6352 Ok it's not the Swedish people themselves it's the immigrants they let in. As far as the home school not much difference than goes on here in the USA. I am prejudiced as I do not condone home schooling as young children need to be around their peers for learning social skills.
@buzz13 Social workers stealing a child from loving parents as they were on an airplane trying to escape Sweden, and then never letting them see each other is something even the worst dictators in the history of the world didn't think of. That's the Sweden you admire so much.
@doug6352 There was a young boy in Miami that was taken away from his mother by U.S.Marshalls and deported back to Cuba to live with his father. It was a custody battle that the US caved in to the Cuban Government. I'll see if I can find a link for it later.
@buzz13 You are mis-remembering the Elian Gonzalez case, which is the exact opposite of what happened in Sweden to Dominic Johansson: [en.wikipedia.org] The US Court ruled that a child belongs with a living parent, in spite of the political differences between the US and Cuba. We do not yet have the evil heartless totalitarian nanny state that runs Sweden.
I hear the taxes are quite high in Sweden. They do show that social progress is achievable.
I'm altruistic, it breaks my heart to see homeless people, people needing medical care, people going hungry while people like Trump sitting on their Billions. Higher taxes to rid the world of that is well worth it to me.We should up the tax rate and get rid of tax loopholes for corporations, they will never bring factories back to the USA. It's a global economy now, no matter what we do we are a service and idea based country. I'm just deluded I guess. lol
The taxes may be high, but at least you can still make a living wage and not suffer all of the injustices that we face here in the U.S.
Taxes probably are high...but...worth it in the end, because of the benefits. Apparently, the Swedes have a social conscience! Sadly...we lack one.
I was just in Sweden and their taxes are crazy high. It's certainly not a country for someone who's wanting to be very wealthy. But, it's a very nice country with a very nice quality of life.
I would be willing to pay much higher taxes if 1/2 of my paycheck didn't have to go toward healthcare.
Don't mind paying for services.
@Dhiltong Kinda nice that greedy capitalists will not move there.
@buzz13 Not deluded. Idealistic perhaps. I, too, prefer to pay taxes to support social infrastructures.
@Dhiltong, @buzz13 Trump is busy being President. His sons now take care of his billions and provide employment to thousands of people.
In my opinion our USA welfare systems do need to provide more support for single adults without children. Milton Friedman's idea of a guaranteed income for everyone would solve a lot of problems. But it is very difficult to make the transition from one kind of welfare system to another.
