Avoiding gluten is super trendy at the minute (although some people avoid gluten because it makes them feel unwell).
But that's last season. Now the latest cool trend is poking fun at people who avoid gluten.. Why? Because it's fun of course!
Unfortunately the loudest of the non-coeliac gluten free people are the ones who eschew it because 'it makes you fat.'. The vain type who panic if they can't fit in a size zero.
Self reported non-celiac sensitivity to gluten appears to be a fructan sensibility instead according to a recent study. Obviously, more studies are required...
Conclusions
In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study of individuals with self-reported non-celiac gluten sensitivity, we found fructans to induce symptoms

I was diagnosed last year as gluten sensitive since I can't afford the additional $10k -$25k for all the insurance required hoops before the actual conclusive (invasive) test.
I hate being "that person" so I tend to plan outings in advance so I can review menus online for gluten free options, carry my own sweetner & try to keep things as simple as possible. I know what kitchen staff have to go & I want to avoid that.
Fortunately, my friends are cool with it because they have seen the drastic changes for the better & they tend to be a lot more militant about it than I am.
Preplanning & a little research goes a long way.
I avoid gluten because it makes me feel better. I could not afford the costs of tests but my doctor suggested it and I got better. Don't miss it and the weight and belly bloat is GONE! Not everyone has a problem with gluten and that's fine. I just don't get making fun of others over it.
I really prefer poking fun at people who are purveyors of "essential" oils. They're so smug.
