'Last Tuesday, Donald Trump addressed the Susan B Anthony List at its 11th annual Campaign for Life gala... In speaking to this audience of faithful supporters identified as “pro-life” voters, he said: “Now, for the first time since Roe v Wade, America has a pro-life president, a pro-life vice-president, a pro-life House of Representatives, and 25 pro-life Republican state capitols.”

..This speech tells you exactly what you need to know about this president’s goal and his desire to define his legacy. As is well known by now, what he says yesterday he reverses tomorrow. At one time, Trump supported a woman’s right to choose. That is long gone. His goal today is nothing less that the undoing of Roe v Wade, the US supreme court decision that allowed a woman the right to obtain an abortion. He will not be satisfied until he can stack the lower federal courts – and eventually the supreme court – with judges who will overturn that precedent.

If the Republicans prevail in the midterm elections and retain control of the House and, more importantly, the Senate, the relentless march to appoint conservative judges will continue at record speed.'

It’s up to this nation to send a serious message in November … or get what it deserves..

Meh. I'm pro-choice but in the middle on the issue. I think a woman should be able to end a pregnancy in the first 10-12 weeks, but after that I think the bar for obtaining an abortion should get increasingly higher as the weeks go by. I understand that most pro-choice folks think that a woman should be able to end a pregnancy for any reason at any time, right up until birth. But I'm not on board with that.

All of that said, at first I thought Trump was just pandering to the religious nut jobs with his stance on abortion, but I'm beginning to think that he actually is against it personally, since he doesn't flip flop on it like he does on every other issue.

As for Republicans prevailing, I think Demographics (minorities tend to be Democrats and the reproduce faster) will eventually turn the nation blue, but not in time for the Republicans to roll back abortion funding and rights quite a bit. But Dems have only themselves to blame for this. No one thought Trump had a chance, yet he won, and Dems seem content to consider it a fluke instead of trying to understand why he won. They don't seem to have learned their lesson. If they want to win now, as opposed to waiting for demographics to swing their way, then they need to be the party for the middle-class, too. And they are basically ignoring white working class and middle class voters. It's telling that Trump even won over women voters in many states.

I'm an independent and I've tended to vote Democrat or Libertarian, but as of now I disagree with Democratic policies just as much as I do with Trump, so the Dems have more or less lost me as a potential swing vote.

He was pro-choice before he wasn't. His current stand suits his only real agenda (after monetizing the presidency and lining the pockets of the Koch brothers billionaire club) - keeping his base happy and fired up, to unleash when the Mueller probe reveals its findings.

@moNOtheist yeah - perhaps. I just figured he'd drop the religious loons as soon as he became president, but since he actually seems to want to keep his promises to them I'm a bit mystified.

@Fins I think that, as they seem to make up much of his base, he'll pander to them - if The Donald knows anything (and that's questionable in itself) it's to keep the core of True Believers well sated.

@moNOtheist Yes, I am very impressed with Trump's ability to manipulate his base. It's ghastly and admirable at the same time. He's like a freakin' Pied Piper!

Exactly. This is why we have to do our best in November to turn the tide and hope we could change the balance of power in favor of Dems. That may not happen. Maybe the best we can hope for is to have a balance of power again. That would make a big difference. Keep in mind that between now and the mid terms Trump will campaign almost weekly in states that he has carried. He may lie a bit again as he wants to keep the GOP power that they have now.

We ALL know he's only appealing to the fundie evangelical base which supports him. Without them, he's gone! But, deep down inside, he doesn't give a single fece about abortion. He cares for power & that's it.

None of those elected officials are pro-life. They are for forced birth. They could not care less about the people who have been born.

Ain't gonna happen

@Xena Don't allow yourself to get too complacent. It's critical that we do everything in our power to keep the POS from getting re-elected. It really could happen.

@GodlessFred Fred...I was deeply involved in making abortion legal and safe along with millions of wimmin who were beaten and imprisoned for fighting for Roe vs Wade...don't YOU underestimate the strength of wimmin UNITED!!!! We are a powerful force right now and finally taking our power. IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!!!

This is exactly why the religious fanatics were so in favor of this piece of shit.
