It's all a bit crazy and divided. I really like Samantha Bee, and I do not think it can compare.

Shows the power of words. In the right hands and with the right training, rhetoric can create incredible lasting damage or inspiration. So, don't speak from a position of anger or victimhood. If you feel aggrieved, wait until the emotion abates, and then construct and deliver the greatest disarming statement or speech from a position of considered opinion, research and centredness.

Kind of off topic but, why is it ok for euphemisms for male genetalia to be used in common language? I give you Dick, prick, big balls, no balls, ballless, pecker, pecker head, tool, peter, the list goes on. BUT, offense is taken to the words penis, scrotum, and testicals in daily conversation. Btw, what Sam B said is in now way comparable to what Rosanne said. They're just not not in tone, not in intent, not even, just not even and it pissess me off that the right is crying foul and becoming the victim thus twisting things up so much one can't remember what original argument was. Just like the kneeling NFLer's .

Do find it funny that the "C" word is viewed so badly here. It's a fucking word, get over it. Nothing Sam said is even close to be being as bad as what Rosanne tweeted.. There's no comparison at all.
Name-calling isn't always the best way to convey a point, but it does work sometimes. And sometimes it fails (see "deplorables" ).

Name calling, by any "side" is a form of lowering one's self to the level of those not willing to incorporate reason, exchange, and enlightenment.
I never lower myself to the level of ad hominem attackers, "returning fire" as it were.
Chelsea does it best (if you're on Twitter, follow her and read her eloquent, yet effective replies to some very hate-filled tweets).
It's disarming to not "get triggered" in one's replies.
Go high, when they go low.
At very least, you carry no blame for escalating the situation.

Here is a little pic I found on FB

Just for the record, a few weeks ago there was a question posted here that asked " If you could pick any celebrity you wanted to sleep with who would you pick?

I picked Samantha Bee. 🙂

The show was pre-recorded. They should have edited it.

I've known several women who have referred to both genders as fucking cunts. I'm just really happy that I can say Ivanka Trump is a fucking cunt without losing any corporate sponsorships or having to make a public apology.

Apparently all bad words aren't 'asterisked.'

One issue that hasn't been addressed is the power dynamic. Samantha Bee called another woman the 'c' word while Rosanne, as a white woman, made a disgustingly racist comment about a woman of color. Both unacceptable but definitely not the same.

@NotConvinced My comment says race should be considered as a factor and therefore there is a difference. That was kinda the whole point.

@NotConvinced Never said I didn't want race to be an issue.

One was a racist statement, the other was the truth. No comparison. ?

3

Exactly. If those outraged Trumpites think it's so bad why don't they say anything about Trump's outrageous tweets.

It's just a shame adults resort to this tho...

Bee didn't say anything that isn't true, or racist.
Barr posted a lie, and it was a racist lie.
There's a definite difference.

I was with an improv group. We had a rule that all jokes had to be above the waist, could not refer to any substance secreted or eliminated from the the body and nothing skewed, crude, luciferous or otherwise socially unacceptable. I wish more comedians would follow that rule.

I don't think that blatant racism should ever be tolerated, but it is a false equivalence to compare the two.. how is 'grab 'em by the pussy' any different? And aside from a cursory apology, Trump has never apologized for anything else ever.. so any directions on what should be done from that quarter can easily be ignored..having said that, I agree that Bee's language leaves a lot to be desired in this case, and yes I know it is a word that is thrown around in North America quite a bit, but should it be? Another discussion...

Samantha B's show is quite entertaining. I'm not at all bothered by the language she uses. The targets of her (and our) scorn have committed scurrilous acts, thus are entitled to our strongest scorn ! Thank you Stacey 48 !

I watched the show and the comment, calling her a cunt, which was bleeped out by the way, is not on the same level as the raciest comments of Roseanne Barr. So the Right is trying to make another false equivalency.

@Stacey48 Thank you

If you look around on YouTube a little you can find the unedited version.
That's what I did. 😉

Samantha Bee should have called Sarah Huckabee the same. It's a fault of the "left" to apologize to the "right" who shamelessly do the same shit. It's not even a moral crisis, and only makes the left look weak to the hypocrites on the right who'll in the same day defend racists.

Marz Level 7 May 31, 2018

I have no doubt that her producers forced her to apologize. Samantha Bee has been calling out the snowflakes on the right since her days on The Daily Show. It's a problem with the "left" to focus more on the language and less on the message.

@josh_is_exciting I disagree completely. If anyone is going to dismiss someone simply for the words they choose, and ignore the content of what they're saying, the person doing the ignoring is the one with the diminished position. I really don't give a flying rat's ass about anyone's delicate sensibilities. Bee is spot on in her comments, and used the correct language to convey her position.

@josh_is_exciting Comedians get their message across succinctly and with more impact than all of the long winded political conversations ever will. ☺
