This is encouraging for us all ! The new Prime Minister of Spain is "Promised" in. Note - NOT "Sworn" in. ... and there were no religious symbols. Remember, until 1970 Spain was probably the most Catholic country in Europe.
The pertinent bit is in the first and second paragraphs.

Is Sanchez religious himself??

Not at all religious. He has a holiday home right here in Mojacar.

Nice to see absence of religion while this country throws it in our faces with this x-tian administration every day.

Yet Spain was the home of the inquisition and until the death of Franco in November, 1975, a bastion of the Catholic church.
Probably in reaction to his his dictatorship and the church's support for his brutal regime, younger Spaniards turned away from religion. There are many religious holidays throughout the year, but they are now used as excuses for parties and excursions.
