Man himself is the source of all coming evil, and we know nothing of man - we are woefully ignorant.
~ Carl Jung
I like to think that man has the capacity for both evil and good as is borne out by Hitler and his ilk and then Albert Schweitzer, Mother Theresa, Ghandi and others like them. Perhaps that is the thing about the human race: the wide range of good and evil. However, lately when I look at the plunder of the planet, the violence, the ignorance, etc, I lean more toward Jung's statement. The world and its other inhabitants would be better off without Man. Not only is our magnificent planet in danger, but many species are becoming extinct due to the killing for sport and greed. I like the statement by Buckminster Fuller who said there is enough technology to feed the all humanity and to create a good life for all - hindered by out-of-date institutions and the greed of small minded men. In his optimism he said that there will be a heaven on earth after these institutions are toppled by revolution. In the mean time I refuse to eat animals that are being so desperately tortured as they are being raised for food. What monsters are we?
