Church is generally characterized by Christians as a place for community and "provoking one another to good works". In fairness ... it's possible to believe god is everywhere but that his presence is more subjectively felt in the company of other believers or that god tends to be more active in response to a gathering of believers, etc.
The great cathedrals in Europe and elsewhere were designed to direct attention upward to heaven and the like. It's for the people who go there, not to serve as a particular locus of god's presence to the exclusion of other places. At least I'm not aware of any big way in which official dogma suggests that.
If Patrick Stewart says there's no god, I mean what the fuck? Case closed.
Something to do with when 3 or more people gather he's in the midst of them? Christianity. But yes, point taken. (all those years of Sunday school kick in!)
There has to be a central point in which to inflict guilt and collect money.
It's a proven fact that god is a terrible money manager, he's always collecting no matter how much he takes in, he just can't seem to hang onto a dollar. Usually he blows it on hookers, cocaine and private jets, at least that's what the tabloids say.
@Surfpirate Somehow all of God's money gets spent by God's mouthpieces.
@GuyKeith Overhead and Miscellaneous Expenses, they just eat you up.
