Here is a "What If". Role reversal.

Let's go back about 8 thousand years and have women be the dominant sex that held the power in the home, business, and government. Would history have played out the same way, or would there be significant differences?

The Human nature is hard to predict or control. Beside that the woman is the most powerful creature in the world

I voted better, real answer is I have no idea. I have problems with male dominated society that revolve around greed and aggression, I would love it if we have evolved without these. Then perhaps if women were dominant they would have developed the traits to become so?

I think anyone in a position of power is at risk of corruption.

The negative issues that are prejudicely associated with Men are actually associated with Power, not gender. History shows that whenever a Wonan has been in a position of power, she is just as likely to be as big of an asshole as any man.

I completely agree. Power corrupts absolute power corrupts absolutely. Doesn't matter what gender is in power they will eventually become corrupted.

This is a very interesting question. My initial reaction would be to say "better", but that's at least partly due to my own bias - I've always liked women (as a whole) more than men (as a whole).

But I wonder if the outcome might in fact have been the same? It would depend on whether women truly are(again, as a whole) born with better-developed instincts to care and nurture, or whether society and the way little girls have traditionally been raised instills those instincts in them. If women are indeed born with those instincts, a world run by women would very possibly be a better place. However, it may also be that both women and men are born with those instincts but the way little boys have traditionally been raised suppresses them, of course; if so, it's possible that if women had tended to be bigger and stronger than men and the traditional roles had been swapped, then men would be the caring, nurturing ones and women would have suppressed and controlled them in the men have done to women. In which case, if equality is what matters, the world would have been no better off.

Interestingly, it might easily have happened had we have relied on running down prey over long distances like wolves do rather than ambushing it with weapons such as rocks and spears which become more efficient at killing if the person wielding them is stronger, since there is plenty of evidence (including the fact that women outperform men in sports such as ultramarathons, and maintain their athletic peak for longer than men) to suggest that while women tend to have less physical strength than men, they have greater stamina.

You're right on point with my theory. 👍

Great minds, eh? 😉

Can't say will be better or worse... it will be totally different. A queen may have a stable of lovers like kings do but she will get pregnant. So many things... Man may have endurance for the wilderness and exploring... females need different kind of care. While on my military life I received training about terrorism, etc One of the briefing we received is how a female terrorist is different from a male terrorist. Male tend to learn from childhood a code of honor... manhood whatever that almost make them look you in the eyes when they shoot you, females do not learn that and don't mind shot you in the back. I am talking 20th century. ISIS with their videos of public execution has changed that perception. Bombers and everything else comes to mind too. But History will be very different with the roles turned I believe.

I imagine similar kinds of problems with women in charge of the countries. Prejudice, discrimination, exploitation, and subjugation of the poor and vulnerable would be just as horrific. Women can be very cruel as well as kind.

@betpaq Oh yes I didn't wanted to go there but Yes... in porn they make more money than men... in tennis they make good money and fame playing less sets. Shorted distances in golf. They can break your heart... more men commit suicide because of women than the other way around. But I still adore the Ladies for what they represent to us men and feel shame for those men guilty of the "me too movement".

I think it would have been better if we had maintain the worship of the goddess rather than male gods, goddess religions tend to be kinder to the planet as well as to their followers. Beyond that matriarchies have often arisen because of the devastation of war the Iroquois Federation was a good example of this. I think advances through technology might have been a little slower because of the stabilities of matriarchal societies but, so would the losses of it through societies breaking down.

If you go back about 8,000 years, it is my understanding that most tribes (in Europe anyway) were matriarchal. It wasn't until the development of agriculture that physical strength started to turn things towards a patriarchal dominant cultures.

So, your "what if" was really what was.

So, nothing would be all that different.

So, you've chosen not to play. That's okay. 🙂

@Betty Quite honestly, I think the world would be a much better place if it were run by women. I wish it were.

1

My vote would be "The Same".

Women can be as cunning, ruthless, devious, and cruel as any man. Women can be as greedy for power, control, and dominance and any man.

If women had attained power and maintained it, men would have been kept ignorant, subservient, and ruled by fear. The abuses would be similar to what women have endured over the millennia. We know that women, when trained, can fight in battle just as well as men.

Girls being trained for battle and leadership at a young age would not have evolved as natural nurtures with some exceptions. It would be common for women to give their children to nannies (male or female) to be raised like so many do now in order to work long hours.

It is my belief that although many of the complaints may differ the problems would end up being the same. Discrimination and abuse of power.

Women are vindictive and would never be able to respect a treaty.
Frankly, people are people. I would like to think that the world would be a better place if women were in charge, but I know enough women to realize there’s really no difference. People are still cruel, self serving, self involved....

I agree. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Ego is not just for males it is just as strong in women. 🙂

Because the biochemistry of the female body leads to different drives and imbedded nurturing tendencies. I recommend that you read the brilliant satire on the topic, THE FOUNDER, written by Gunther Grass.

Grass was also highly critical of the women's movement in Germany during the 1980s. His criticism stated that the problem was that the German feminists were trying to use power like men, and that "we already had too many stupid men in the world."

4

I think it was Robin Williams that said, if women were in charge, we'd have world peace. But, every 28 days there would be intense negotiations.

Duke Level 8 Jan 5, 2018

So you think there would be world peace?

@betpaq I definitely think that conflict resolution would less likely resort to blowing shit up as a first response.

@betpaq And I qualify that by my personal experience. I've met far fewer women with violent tendencies than I have men.

@Stevil I totally see your point. And, it's a valid one. I'm not saying that women can't be violent.

Having said that, I can't compare what goes on in a nightclub with alcohol involved to everyday existence.

This article may be of interest: Men or Women Who is The Better Leader?

The article was interesting. I would like to know what your thoughts are if women were superior to men in the same way the men have been for thousands of years?

I think the world would probably be a more comfortable place (all those cushions everywhere). I also would predict the world would be a prettier place, architecture is usually far more creative when done by women. also women would have been given rights over their own bodies which would benefit the world considerably.

Dav87 Level 6 Jan 5, 2018

How would men fare being inferior to women?

@betpaq the same as we cope now.

@Stevil

I don't. It wasn't called a "man's world" for nothing. They held the power and had the control. The world is changing fast with the #metoo, so my question is...would it have been different if the roles had been reversed over the same time period and women were the ones objectifying, discriminating, and prejudice against men?

@Stevil

You had a good family.

Until the last century women had no rights, they were considered chattel (property) and could not legally own land or stock. (Not talking about the wealthy).

My question was if the role were reversed and women controlled the power in government, industry, big business. If women were the dominant sex in society and men were kept weak, ignorant, and dependent would the problems of our modern day society, prejudice, discrimination, victimization, and subjugation be the same, better, or worse if women had evolved as the dominant sex in control?

1

8000 years ago they did rule. only in matters of war did the males take charge

it wasn't until the advent of the printed word that males took over[ egypt] apparently the advent of the computor will reverse the balance of power back to the girls

Had women maintained complete superiority over men, do you think society would be better, the same, or worse?
