i totally agree. it's not really that difficult to teach them. i personally think some of the issue may come from how uptight most people are about sex and the naked body. some mothers may not really know how to teach their sons. since the penis is so associated with a sexual purpose, others may not feel comfortable teaching it or talking about it. again... just my opinion and general observation.

It’s not a religious issue, it’s a cultural issue. Yes, some Muslims do it, but it is not because of their faith.

How is it biased? There are options for people that have a strong opinion about it, but voters can also pick “circumcision is harmless and necessary”. I wanted people to be able to vote about parents’ right to make a decision that can not be reversed. Obviously people that choose “harmless and necessary” believe parents have the right to make that decision on behalf of their children. I could only put 8 choices.

You are comparing apples and oranges. Circumcision is a surgical intervention and the crying is less due to local anesthesia. Piercing ears is not a surgical intervention and can be simply reversed by taking the earnings off. Foreskin is gone forever, in addition to a good amount of sensation. When performed on adults circumcision is usually done under general anesthesia. I’ve never seen anyone requiring general anesthesia to get their ears pierced.

You’d have to compare male and female surgical circumcision to make your point. Good luck with that.

I hate seeing babies with their ears pierced. Again the rights of the child to make an informed decision has been taken away from them. You wouldn't physically hurt a child and yet people are willing to inflict pain on them for their own selfish reasons

girls should not have their ears pierced until they can say they want it done. i have a 7-year-old, and she will tell me when she's ready. a person's body is their own, and unless it's an emergency situation, they should make the decision if they are physically altered.

They found that superimposing a map of higher rates of HIV infection and areas where circumcision was not performed, that there was a much higher rate of HIV infection in areas without circumcision. After beginning programs of circumcision, they found that the rate of new infections dropped.

There are benefits. There are also risks of infection, mutilation, defects following the procedure. Those risks aren’t addressed by medical literature.

Consider the following statement. There are many benefits in removing tonsils at birth, because many people end up with tonsillary infections later in life that will require surgical removal of the tonsils. Taking tonsils out in newborns undoubtedly involves less risk of massive bleeding and less complications then in adolescents or adults. It seems logical, but exposing every newborn to the risk of surgical removal of the tonsils still implicates much greater risk than simply waiting and removing them ONLY on people that develop tonsillary problems. Removal is less risky when done on newborns or small children, but why take the chance if there is no medical necessity? NATO doesn’t recommend removing tonsils in newborn. Foreskins are no different.
