What do you think of circumcision?

Do you believe circumcision is just an old barbaric religious practice, or do you think men should be circumcised? Should males have the freedom to make the decision once adult, or should parents make the decision on their behalf when they are born?

If you choose not to circumcise, please please thoroughly go over proper hygiene with your son. I'm speaking from the experience of watching a 6yo undergo surgery after an infection developed from poor hygiene habits. If you are circumcised but choose not on your child, please make sure he learns how to properly clean himself.

Word.

Yes. There are key moments during a child development where it’s crucial to teach hygiene practices and maneuvers that will avoid issues later on. Once a child has gone through puberty, if things were done correctly, things are settled down there, smegma production ceases and there is virtually no difference between a circumcised and an uncircumcised penis except for the appearance. Many women find uncircumcised penises very unpleasant to look at or even disgusting.

i totally agree. it's not really that difficult to teach them. i personally think some of the issue may come from how uptight most people are about sex and the naked body. some mothers may not really know how to teach their sons. since the penis is so associated with a sexual purpose, others may not feel comfortable teaching it or talking about it. again... just my opinion and general observation.

It is child abuse and should be prosecuted accordingly.

Mutilating the genitals of children is evil. No justification.

But, now that evil people have created a multi-millon dollar business based upon "harvesting" foreskins, it is being more than difficult to reason with legislators.

Yet, some of them are backing anti-girl mutilation. Must not be a business in clitori harvesting.

How about equality?

I was cut for medical reasons, once as a baby, then again in my early twenties (don’t ask!). Apart from medical reasons, it has no other value beyond hygiene. And that is easily overcome and not enough of a reason to continue with what is a barbaric custom. As for FGM, don’t get me started!!!!

When medically necessary I’m the first to advocate in its favor

3

Is a sick barbaric custom based on barbaric sick religious principles I am not circumcised and my son is not circumsized it is simply male genital mutilation

In most of Europe they don’t circumcise and males are still thriving with healthy penises.

@Lucignolo I know what the hell! We're supposed to be the most Progressive country in the world and we're still doing crazy ass Barbarian s***

3

We did not have our sons circumcised. It is usually not medically necessary. They can make that choice for themselves should they wish. I told them to make their choice before they age out of the family insurance plan and should they decide to do it, I will pay their copay.

Nicely done! Welcome to 2018!

Fortunately female circumcision is only done by a few Muslim women. Hopefully men will make the the same advancement. I occasionally hear of some adult who chooses to be circumcised. I really can't get my head around that.

It’s not a religious issue, it’s a cultural issue. Yes, some Muslims do it, but it is not because of their faith.

3

I’m cut, my kids are cut, but I wish they weren’t.

2

Uncut. It is there for a reason, to protect the sensitivity and to stretch when the member is engorged.

This was a biased survey, since the response choices expressed judgments about circumcision.

UUNJ Level 8 July 16, 2018

How is it biased? There are options for people that have a strong opinion about it, but voters can also pick “circumcision is harmless and necessary”. I wanted people to be able to vote about parents’ right to make a decision that can not be reversed. Obviously people that choose “harmless and necessary” believe parents have the right to make that decision on behalf of their children. I could only put 8 choices.

The medical literature on the subject is biased.

@Lucignolo When a survey uses the terms “barbaric” and “multilate” the response choices are clearly biased.

It's not medically necessary though some might debate that. they say circumcision reduces urinary tract infections and cancer in men. can't speak to the cancer, but my ex-husband and son are both uncircumcised, and neither ever had a problem. you just have to teach them how to take care of themselves at a young age. personally, i prefer an uncircumcised penis. they seem to have more sensitivity. the fact that there are also nerve endings in the foreskin means that there is more of an area for sensation... plus it's just fun to play with. ? i think it should be up to the individual whether they want a part of their body removed. i get that it used to be for religious reasons (and we know how much weight that carries here), but now we have science. for some reason people just keep doing it because it's what has been done. time to start thinking for yourselves...or for your son...

Only 4 % of male Australian babies are circumcised. how does this stat compare with the USA? We might be having a poll about something that is no longer much of an issue.

1

My daughters cried more and were in more pain during piercing of their ears than my son during circumcision. WHERE IS THE FUCKING OUTRAGE FOR PIERCING BABY GIRLS EARS? OH, THE HYPOCRISY! WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE?

You are comparing apples and oranges. Circumcision is a surgical intervention and the crying is less due to local anesthesia. Piercing ears is not a surgical intervention and can be simply reversed by taking the earnings off. Foreskin is gone forever, in addition to a good amount of sensation. When performed on adults circumcision is usually done under general anesthesia. I’ve never seen anyone requiring general anesthesia to get their ears pierced.

You’d have to compare male and female surgical circumcision to make your point. Good luck with that.

I would never pierce another person without consent. I don't see the difference. You cut off a significant percent of your son's future sexual pleasure without his permission.

@JenBeberstein My son is not complaining... I am not complaining... I had never found a single guy with his foreskin in an orgy having more fun than me. I am not complaining Between us... What do you know? I would never claim to know female sexual pleasure as a woman would... now, if you are a transformer that abandoned the boat... my apology, what in the hell do you know of Men Pleasures? What you know or think you know is hearsay... 3rd person... NOT ADMISIBLE IN COURT. Let me give you a clue... Never been a hot item in Porn... that should be your Clue.

I hate seeing babies with their ears pierced. Again the rights of the child to make an informed decision has been taken away from them. You wouldn't physically hurt a child and yet people are willing to inflict pain on them for their own selfish reasons

@MsDemeanour Welcome to the real world... a society of piercings and tattoos. A society with beauty contests for every age. . Where fat is ugly and the sack of bones threw up after eating. Being circumsized never stop me from getting any. Never being asked by a prospective sexual partner. Nor I ever remembered the pain. Or a shrink ever determined that is the root of my behavior... my circumcision, but I am going to start using it as an excuse everytime I fuck up... to satisfy you "foreskin lovers". If only I would had that foreskin I would had never cheated on my wife!!!

@GipsyOfNewSpain I understand this is probably a cultural thing for you. You had it done, your father, his father etc etc but there is no need to overreact. If you can be objective, use some critical thinking you will see our arguments are rational; while yours are.....Well I'm not sure what your reasons are for inflicting unnessary surgery on yourself or your son.

But it is almost impossible to change someone's mind once it is made up.
Most of us have a strong drive to hold on to pre-existing beliefs and convictions, which keep us anchored in the world. When your stance on controversial issues both cements your group identity and plants you in opposition to perceived enemies, changing it can exact a high personal toll

@Lucignolo I reckon you were an adult trooper when you lost your himem and didn't hurt you. I don't talk about vaginas leave our pretty penises with our heads showing off alone!

girls should not have their ears pierced until they can say they want it done. i have a 7-year-old, and she will tell me when she's ready. a person's body is their own, and unless it's an emergency situation, they should make the decision if they are physically altered.

@ltblmr Okay.

@GipsyOfNewSpain No one has the right to alter another without their consent. Adult consent.

@Skeezwazzle Warning!!! TRANSFORMER ALERT.... HE, HA, HE, HE, HA, HA!!!! JA!!!

1

They take your newborn son, strap him into this and cut part of his penis off. No pain medicine, no consent. All because people are too lazy to teach them how to clean themselves.

1

Female circumcision is barbaric and absolutely unnecessary; not sure how brutal male circumcision is but it's unnecessary. Yes, you may need to watch hygiene a bit more and deal with a couple more UTIs, but, given what we know, I don't see how you can justify it. Heck, I think it was even a rabbi who said that if you're not doing it for religious reasons, don't do it.

1

Snip the tip.

I haven't watched this movie in a million years. I didn't know Dave Chappelle was in that!!!

It's not your goddam right to decide for someone else's body.

0

None of the above. Anti circumcision crowd is worse than the anti vax crowd. Medical evidence should be discussed with the parents. Forget the woo and side with science. the CDC, W.H.O and the academy of pediatrics have changed their stance on the procedure. Make an educated decision on the procedure.

My son was circumcised almost 28 years ago. His father wanted it done because he had a nephew that had problem being uncircumcised.I had no strong feelings one way or the other .

0

I was so proud of mine that I finished the job myself with a Gem shaving blade about age 10 or 11. Despite the danger, cut by cut in about a week span I finished the surgery. That is when I learned I was capable of doing things beyond normal comprehension and I was owner of my own body. Proud of what my circumcision showcases. Yet I won't have a tattoo or a pierced part on my body because that is desecration of my flesh. My Body, My Rules. Thank You to my parents for doing the right thing. Much appreciate the task.

Your body, your rules... why no similar respect for your son's bodily autonomy?

@JenBeberstein I asked him if he wanted to put a himem in there and he declined. Get over it.... YOU WERE NOT BORN WITH ONE TO REMOVE!!!!

@GipsyOfNewSpain You are sick and stupid.

@Skeezwazzle But at least... I am Happy with the Sex/Gender I was born with... while you are NOTHING BUT A TRANSFORMER... That is Sick and Stupid!!!!

Parents are going to do what ever they choose.

Well you don't have to have brains to be a parent

I know the medical division of NATO recommends male circumcision for 3rd world countries, clearly there's SOME medical benefits.

The USA isn't a 3rd world country yet.

They found that superimposing a map of higher rates of HIV infection and areas where circumcision was not performed, that there was a much higher rate of HIV infection in areas without circumcision. The folds in the tissue hold vaginal fluids that contain the virus, thus increasing the infection chances. After beginning programs of circumcision, they found that the rate of new infections dropped.

There are benefits. There are also risks of infection, mutilation, defects following the procedure. Those risks aren’t addressed by medical literature.

Consider the following statement. There are many benefits in removing tonsils at birth, because many people end up with tonsillary infections later in life that will require surgical removal of the tonsils. Taking tonsils out in newborns undoubtedly involves less risk of massive bleeding and less complications then in adolescents or adults. It seems logical, but exposing every newborn to the risk of surgical removal of the tonsils still implicates much greater risk than simply waiting and removing them ONLY on people that develop tonsillary problems. Removal is less risky when done on newborns or small children, but why take the chance if there is no medical necessity? NATO doesn’t recommend removing tonsils in newborn. Foreskins are no different.
