Dealbreakers: Friends and Partners

What is a deal breaker for you in someone you wish to date as opposed to a friendship. Are there things you would put up with your friends but not from a partner?

Damn. I had to really think about it. I guess I have nearly identical requirements for friends and partners. So I'd have to say children. I have friends that want tons of kids (not by adoption). I try not to date women that seek to birth a fleet of babies.

I wouldn't mind having one or two of my own and adopting some kids if I had the means/time to properly raise them.

Smokers. I quit 7 years ago and the smell makes me nauseous now. I'd probably throw up if I kissed a smoker. x_x

Two: smokers and Trump voters

I can deal with friends who smoke and/or are inactive, but I could not handle that in an s/o.

They are pretty much the same except I have higher expectations of intelligence and compatible political and social beliefs with a partner than I do with a friend.

hmmm.....I think I generally hold my friends to the same standards I would choose in a partner.... i.e. no smokers, no druggies, no felons, no kids that I would have to deal with, no animal abuse, no homophobia, no religious nuttiness, and don't be a liar, a thief, stupid or lazy.

If it's a close friend vs. a relationship, the only deal-breaker would be if one of us wanted to be in a relationship and the other one didn't. Unrequited love sucks.

i am spoken for, but theoretically, there isn't much i would put up with in a good friend that i wouldn't put up with in a significant other. i am not sure those few things that would be different could apply to everyone; i judge folks as individuals. i even have a born-again evangelical christian friend but she pushed it last time we met and i'm mad at her. if she ever calls again i intend to tell her that.

I try not having "dealbreakers" being an insolent rule-breaker myself. Now I will say partner and friends are very similar for me...the standards really aren't different just hoping the context of the relationship is

I've learned the hard way that if your partner is not your best friend then the writing is on the wall and its just a matter of time for things to drift appart. Now I know and that's a deal breaker, friendship must come first at full force.

Testify brother!

There are lots of deal breakers for both friends and partners. Who you spend your time with reflects on and influences who you are and you should hold them to a high standard. I of course have different deal breakers for friends and partners but most are romantic in nature.

My friends can sleep with whoever they want. So can my partner, just once or until I find out.
