Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.Is this aphorism of Voltaire still true today particularly in respect of religion ?

Yes its called gaslighting. Say it long enough, loud enough and frequent enough, and those in society that do not evaluate things deeply (i. e. Trump supporter) get sucked in.
