Unhappiness is the impedance mismatch between what you expect and what you get. It is reduced by either improving your experience and/or lowering your expectations.

In that regard sex is no different that anything else.

No, I make me happy. Sexual intercourse can give me pleasure if the combination of mood, choice of partner, skill level, and element of trust all coincide. Sexual intercourse can be unpleasant as all hell if these things don't coincide. I'm not sure what you mean by "and the like," but my curiosity is definitely piqued.
