#1:

The snow is dirty
Yesterday's footprints fading
No sun in gray sky

#2:

You say your life is
Over, but for time unserved
Even love fails you

Yellow Blue Green. Life!
To love learn create repeat.
Stardust fantasies.

The first winter snow
See it shine in the sunlight
Like polished marble

Haikus are easy
but sometimes they don't make sense

Meow is the sound
A lazy day off today
Rollercoasters call.

Holes where branches were -
My neighbor’s tree is dying.
No! It grows a tail!

A back door window:
Acorns drop - squirrels scurry.
Ginger dog goes nuts!

Ten thousand golden fans
lay face up at her feet.
Winter’s dance begins.

(celebrating when the gingko in my courtyard drops its leaves)

Is my favorite because
I like night time most

Time to light up the furnace

What was it you were dreaming?
Good morning, sunshine.

submit... for...?

a

@Alvin that wasn't in the original post. the poster just asked for the submission of a haiku.

g

@genessa I thought maybe you wanted a hand?

a

@Alvin no, i was asking why the poster wanted us to "submit" a haiku -- as far as i could tell, submit it to the poster! so i wondered for what purpose.

Six lines of poetry? That's not a haiku. A haiku is three lines of poetry, the first containing five syllables, the second containing seven syllables, and the third and final line containing five syllables.

Asked to submit lines...
Three too many for my tastes.
Haikus are tricky.

That was a haiku.
Technically, so is this.
But what do I know?

Dazeypanda is a new member and a friend of mine. It was her birthday last night and Dan and I took her out. We were discussing haikus lol.

that is the form of a haiku for sure, but it is not a haiku by form alone; it must also contain a seasonal reference.

g

@genessa Evolved over time...
Twelve centuries ago, it was.
Not required now.

@Kafir last time i looked -- and i am not 12 centuries old -- it still was!

g

@genessa lol, I wasn't saying you were that old, lol

I was saying that that rule was established in the 9th century but the art of haiku has since evolved to not necessarily need to include a mention of weather or even nature in its present form, so long as it attempts to capture a moment in time and illustrates its temporary nature. Like freezing a moment for posterity in a poetic way that underlies its impermanence.

@Kafir no, i was saying that the last time i checked it wasn't the ninth century and yet the rule still appeared to apply lol. i wish i WAS that old. think of all the historical misapprehensions i could correct!
