None of my business what other women do, but there are situations when I would strongly urge a loved one is to get an abortion.

I'm that rare bird who considers abortion more positive than pregnancy/childbirth.

Same. I'm pro-decision. A young woman should always be able to decide WHEN she wants to become a mother. Men need to take responsibility, as well... the burden seems to be aimed at women, when it takes two to tango.
Men are 100% responsible for all abortions that take place in our country... they feel keen to sow their seed, and walk away?, I don't think so.

My position is this: I support the right for a woman to choose what she can do with her own body. Now I don’t know what it’s like to be a woman so forgive me if this sounds arrogant. But if I was a woman, I don’t think that abortion would be for me personally. But that’s just a preference. There’s a huge difference.

I will say this though: I don’t believe that it makes much sense to use abortion as a primary means of birth control. Without knowing for certain I would imagine that it costs considerably less money to wear a condom or take a pill rather than have a fetus aborted every time. I’m just arguing from a cost standpoint alternatives might be better in certain circumstances. But it’s still ultimately the woman’s choice what she does. Can a man have an opinion on abortion? Fuck yeah! But still the female has the final say because it’s her body.

Here's the facts, though. Women do NOT use abortion, statistically, as a means of birth control. When birth control (in some ultra-conservative states, like Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida) isn't made readily available to young women, or when the religious try to legislate what a woman CAN have for birth control, unwanted pregnancies happen. If conservative/religious minds would open to the fact that the methods of birth control available will HELP alleviate unwanted pregnancies, things would be better for everyone. But no, some societies are wrapped so tight in the reproduction of holy soldiers, that they forget that women should be able to choose when to become mothers...until then, birth control should be made available (like Viagra - insurance covered and delivered right to a gentleman's front door, now). Problem solved, but they'll NEVER get it...so women must, again, suffer at the hands of a group of male legislators on what women can and can't do with their bodies.

It's none of my business - if I don't support abortion and to be honest - I think we need more - I won't put a partner in a position where she might have to consider having one. If I do, then clearly I've left the decision making up to her and at that point I can't whine - because I had a choices - but ultimately went with the wrong one.

If men could get pregnant, this wouldn't even be an issue.

@Dragonfly1965 Just remember us guys that get it and not kill us.

@Dragonfly1965 You honor me so.

@Dragonfly1965 SW, near Prairie du Chien

If men could get pregnant we would have had abortion on demand since the beginning of time,

Let’s stop arguing about pre birth killing and start concentrating on stopping the wholesale killing of fully alive human beings....! My answer to the above question is pro-choice, and only a woman in consultation with her doctor should have a say in whether to abort a foetus or not. By this I mean it should be a medical matter, not a legal matter.

1

Late term abortions should be banned. Prior to that... What the woman wants should be observed. However... Women who use it as a method of birth control should be corralled and whipped! (Along with their men!)

@RiverRick - Why should women who use it as a method of birth control be whipped? It's an effective method of birth control - do you see many aborted babies walking around?

9

Freely available, easily accessed, at any time without any restriction.

A woman should be able to access an abortion provider at any stage of pregnancy for any reason. All forms of contraception should be available for free for men and women alike. Vasectomy and tubal ligation procedures should be available at no cost. I got my vasectomy at age 25. Although I pretty much avoided doctors and hospitals made me nervous, the ability to avoid parenthood was the incentive to seek the vasectomy. Men shouldn't fear the procedure, it is any easy one, and I had no aftereffects. I've had times in the dentist's chair that were worse. Men that insist that their woman get a tubal ligation, a much more complicated procedure, are selfish and women should leave them ! I am happily childfree !

Well said.

Pro choice.

No one will dictate what I can or can not do with my own damn lady parts, and it's none of my business what other women do with theirs.

Ha! Good t-shirt!

Society does have an interest in women's health as well as in that of their offspring. From a public health perspective it makes sense to have legal abortions available. If the procedure is illegal it will happen anyway, but clandestinely. And that is when women die. If they live, they may make the choice to reproduce at some future time when conditions are more favorable for child rearing. Loss of an embryo, while lamentable, is no tragedy. It is not the same as losing a person. In fact, a fetus has no consciousness and should be considered nothing more than a potentiality. Also, we should note that natural, spontaneous abortions (miscarraiges) are at least as common as live births. And they occur with more frequency in the USA than in other developed nations. So if "pro life" people really want to have a positive impact on human reproduction they could vote only for representatives who will fix our broken healthcare system and fund the Affordable Care Act.

It's law of the land but you won't find the right to an abortion in the Constitution

lerlo Level 8 Nov 26, 2018

The court held that a woman's right to an abortion was implicit in the right to privacy protected by the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. Prior to Roe v. Wade, abortion had been illegal throughout much of the country since the late 19th century.

The right to bodily autonomy; to make her own decisions based on economic/familial/social factors. Your body is your own; you're free to make decisions about it every day. You get to decide who does and doesn't hug/touch you. You get to decide how you want your body to be (healthy/unhealthy). You get to decide if you want to smoke, drink, or drug it up...or not. You get to decide, in a couple states, that if you're terminally ill - to terminate your own life. Your right to privacy, is protected, to do with your body as you please....no matter what other's think you should/shouldn't do.
A woman's right to choose, and not be criminally implicated, is protected. So, although the word "abortion" doesn't appear in the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, it encompasses each human individual to do what they feel is right for their well being; on a spectral socio-economic platform.

Where's a man's part in all of this? 1/2 responsible; they're 1/2 responsible for protecting against unwanted pregnancies. They're half responsible for 100% of all abortions that take place in our country. If they're so keen to consent and then walk away, who's left holding 100% of that responsibility? Granted; there are other options...adoption, is a good one...BUUUUT; how many out of 100,000 foster kids/orphans actually get adopted. Some go through their entire young lives waiting for someone to love them, give them a home, make sure they're safe and that they have everything they need and a little bit of what they want.
I currently have a former foster child, living in my home. He has stories; painful ones. He was in foster care/group homes since age 5...he's 22 now, and I don't care how long he's with us. He now has a job, he has a girlfriend and he finally has a home. Adoption is a 50/50 chance that a child born unwanted, will ever find a home with all that a home should be.

Very simple answer to this one, at the time the Constitution was written Woman and Children were Property only of White Land Owners. The Fact that Woman were left out of the Constitution is only an indication of that they were property and Did Not have Rights.
The Roe v. Wade Case sought to deal with the Deaths that were resulting from Illegal Abortions and the Issue of Womans Rights which were NOT Written into the Constitution Either until the ERA was passed Woman Could NOT posses a Credit Card or own Land bought through Credit either because Womans Credit was Dependent on the Husbands Credit Application as a Woman was Banned from Applying. Americas Constitution is a Living Document and can be Amended by Amendment or by Supreme Court Rulings over a Constitutional Issue. This often used argument used by the Religious Right is a Fools errand, since the Constitution DOES State very Clearly "Separation of Church and State" yet doesnt address Womans Rights at all. So in conclusion the Religious Right is BANNED from Constitutional Arguments and Government. It DOES NOT Ban Womans Rights as it is NOT Stated or Banned in the Constitution which leaves it open to the Supreme Court for interpretation and our Legislator to Enact Laws or Amendments to address such issues.
So I guess if you are a White Land Owner and want to revert back to 1792 then I mite suggest you abandon your Electricity Cars/trucks running water ETC, and go live in the Jungle somewhere where there is no Constitution and see how well your Rules allow you to live.
All in all our Constitution SI a LIVING Document with many Amendments and Rulings we ALL are better People and a Better Civilized Society for it. As a young Boy and Man I Read to many Articles about how a Poor Woman with a Shit Husband (who left her pregnant) DIED in an illegal Abortion procedure in some shithole basement somewhere in NYC at the Hands of a Country who DID NOT protect HER Right To LIFE! Roe v. Wade is the Law of the Land and anyone seeking to reverse it is a Guilty of being a Traitor in my humble Agnostic Opinion
.

@Twisted185,@joe1334us: Thanks for the lecture. Being an attorney I have an idea of what the opinion says. Simply put, the Tenth Amendment says anything not in the Constitution is left to the States.

@lerlo You are welcome! Oh and if you are an Attorney it makes NO difference in the Constitution as you are NOT a dully appointed Justice on the Supreme Court as I am not, that coat you put on doesnt mean anything to anyone but you. Have a nice day!

@joe1334 your comment suggests the ERA passed.

@joe1334us I noticed you ignored my suggestion about reading the 10th Amendment. You might want to try it. I'm sure you have opinion about rocket science too but that really doesn't mean you know anything about it. The14th Amendment says what states can't do. Find the word abortion anywhere in the Constitution? Have a nice day.

It is the settled law of the land. Stare decisis should mean that the court defers to the judgment of the previous bench and doesn't reopen the books on it, unless for some compelling error of law (such as in Dred Scott).

Also, "pro-birther" doesn't really mean that in this case, does it?

I think that under the US constitution and its 10th amendment the US Supreme Court had no legitimate power to decide the issue; they usurped the power, which belongs to the 50 states.

The court held that a woman's right to an abortion was implicit in the right to privacy protected by the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. Prior to Roe v. Wade, abortion had been illegal throughout much of the country since the late 19th century.

Roe v. Wade came to the SCOTUS as a Challenge to a Texas Constitutional amendment banning abortion, which the SCOTUS had every Right to hear as it is the Supreme Courts job to decide issues and to Review State Constitutional amendments that face Legal Challenges. Ask yourself this: If Texas created a law forcing Vasectomies (for men over 40) in a new amendment (not addressed in the Constitution) and it met a legal challenge it could eventually be heard in the SCOTUS.

@Twisted185 I know what they ruled but it is legally specious. The right-to-life people now contend that a fetus is a person under the 14th amendment and entitled to life, so all abortion should be banned. I hope that the Supreme Court gets out of the business of using the 14th amendment to make new laws. In the case of abortion that is up to the 50 states, not the federal government.

@joe1334us Your alleged facts are mistaken [en.wikipedia.org]

Pro-choice, without question,I think it is far more cruel to subject a child to a horrible existence. That, and it's no one else's place to make the decision.

10

Men should have absolutely no say in this matter. PERIOD!!!

@maturin1919 Fuck no! Like they have done such a good job making laws up to now. When men start carring babies, then they can make the laws concerning this. I don't know why this is a hard concept to grasp.

@maturin1919 That's it. That's all you got. Weak, very weak. Make a post stating that position and post on a couple of the women's groups and see how they respond, then get back to me.

@maturin1919 You are a fucking moron. I block all morons. That is my law. I will leave this here so you can read this and then block you. Don't bother to respond, as soon as l see that stupid picture that is something a high boy might use l will go straight to your bio and block without reading your reply. Thanks for your participation. ?

@maturin1919 "on all matters"??? Seriously? They should get to tell me what to eat for breakfast or what color to paint my dining room? We do not elect a committee of dictators. Also, being an elected official certainly doesn't mean they are intelligent or have any sense. Look at what we have 'running' (or should that be 'ruining'😉 the country.

I'm adamantly against abortions which is why I've never had one. It's not my place to tell other women what's right for their bodies.

Same here. I knew I didn't want kids and so I never got pregnant. Never even a scare. But it's none of my business what other women do especially when I don't know their circumstances.

Semipro choice. I believe that in cases of rape, and incest where the female is underage and if it is necessary to save the woman’s life they should be performed at no extra expense.

It’s not a contraceptive but a surgery so if you’re having them done in response to buyers remorse then and by the way I mean multiple like more than 2 in a 3 year your insurance should have the right to deny payment for them.

Just saying that all things serve a purpose until they’re abused and if your life is like that then may need a lot more help than what an abortion can solve.

I just don't understand the number of men, here on this site and elsewhere, who don't seem to understand that abortion is very seldom used as a primary method of contraception. Except for total abstinence or sterilization, ALL forms of contraception fail. Abortion is almost exclusively used to deal with these unwanted and unintended pregnancies. It is also used when there is some medical problem for the woman or the fetus. It's an argument that just isn't true. But men seem to go back to it time and again.

@ladyprof70 First off it should never be used as contraceptive that’s my point.
Just as using it because you got knocked by mr. Wrong or it’s just not a good time in your life.

A man says that and walks out and the woman keeps the child and the man gets hit with child support but it’s also wrong for a man to tell a woman to get an abortion because he doesn’t want anything to do with the child.

So whatever it is what it is it would just be better if we could all raise our kids to honestly understand how cause and effect works.

Pro-choice up until the baby could make it on its own (~24 weeks). After that I'm pro-life because killing the baby when it could survive on its own outside the womb is almost murder.

BD66 Level 8 Nov 26, 2018

@powder of course they do. There are all kinds of reasons a mother may choose to have an abortion that late that aren't "I just don't wanna." Most "birth control" abortions happen early in the first trimester. If a woman is seeking an abortion that late in her pregnancy something is wrong. One of my best friends is a labor and delivery nurse, she loves mothers and babies like no one I have ever seen. She has assisted in 3rd trimester abortions. Every single one was accompanied by a heart breaking story about a family who made the best decision they could with the shit hand they were dealt. They should absolutely have the right to make that choice and have full, competent medical support through the process.
