What do you do for a living?

Are you doing what you dreamed you would or did you set your dreams aside? What were they? Is it something you could pick up at this stage in your life?

I have been retired for over 23 years and have not worked a single second since retiring. I am living the life that was meant just for me. I may not have gone where I intended to go but I have ended up where I needed to be.

I want to do that. What did you used to do?

@Potsandpans was a Teamster and a clerk for trucking company for 33 years

I drive around listening to my favorite music all day. Lol I wanted to be a truck driver since I was 5 years old. It's a pretty cool job

It's so hard for me to picture a trucker being a member of this agnostic.com community! Do you know find many truckers that are like minded?

I don't usually discuss religion unless it's brought up and I seldom talk to other drivers. For the most part truck drivers are pretty anti social. Most won't even say good morning.

Retired and having fun.

I am a teacher in Oklahoma, and we are about to go on strike.

Are you in support of it?

Hope you succeed in getting what you need to live on.

Freelance writer, editor, copy-editor, proof-reader, SEO optimiser and text-to-speech specialist. Also do a bit of simple website creation and social media management for individuals and small businesses. After 15 + years of office politics, corrupt bosses and incompetent colleagues I decided to go it alone and be my own boss ?

As long as this question keeps coming up, I'll keep posting my original answer, modified as required.

What I do now is write, and I love what I do. That could be a little misleading because my first job was as a writer back in 1956 and I also worked with my dad as a songwriter and copywriter. Then I went into naval architecture as a full time activity for about 30 years.

As for what I would do if money and time were not issues, I'd return to my old hobby of sailing around the world, though I have a feeling it wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun at landfall as it was back then. Still, just being out on the water with nowhere specific to go would be my ideal. I could still write and transmit my material to publishers, so it would be the best of a couple of worlds.

Sounds nigh on perfect

I’m a software engineer.

I wanted to know how computers work, so I became a computer engineer. But there are few jobs designing electronics like that, so I ended up writing software for them instead.

I wanted to get back to real things, so I did a degree in Physics, specializing in quantum physics (because of quantum computing), but software kept coming up as the available option. And it paid better.

At least I get to work from home, and have done for 11 years. But I miss human interaction. And if I went in to an office, then I might get out to socialize more, and that could possibly lead to dating more. Maybe. Maybe not. A girl can dream, can’t she?

Oh, and nowadays, I’m getting a great deal of enjoyment and satisfaction teaching younger women to code. If only I could get a paying job to do that!

I'm dream is to own my business wish I'm getting close to it. I live only for me. It would be nice to have someone to share my business with but it look like it not going to happen.

I noticed that you are a transplant from MN. I am, too, but I've lived in Bloomington for nearly two decades now. So, just curious -- what kind of business are you wishing to open?

@vlnmkr wood and t shirts design

@Peacefulperson That's interesting. I'm into wood as a business, too. You see, I've been a violinmaker for about forty years now. So, what do you do with wood and what types of wood do you work with? I use mostly maple and spruce, but often work with exotics like ebony and rosewood. I also have lots of walnut in my shop that I use for furniture.

Yes I am in support of it. Oklahoma teachers have not received a pay raise in ten years.

Retired at 53 after working since 16. What I do now is what ever the weather or my health permits. This usually consists of outdoor activity. Mostly the pursuit of natural sounds unimpeded by human interaction.

1

Speech Language Pathology Assistant. Full SLPs mostly do evaluations and paperwork. I get to play with kids all day... and write paperwork.

I planned to be a marine bologist. I am semi retired, work for a community association where I can choose to do what I like, I use the organisation as a vehicle for my projects. Too late to follow my original goal of 50 years ago yet I get a lot of satisfaction from the way things are.
