LINK The Theological Roots of White Supremacy

Great article! It says in part:

If we reexamine the plain meaning of the phrase, its continued relevance comes into view. Even rearranging the words — from “white supremacy” to “supremacy of whites” — gets us to a clearer meaning: the belief that white people’s superior nature and divinely favored status entitles them to hold positions of power over Black and other nonwhite people.

The theological roots of white supremacy go back to at least the 1840s. Evangelical churches in he South during slavery times had to formulate and adopt a theological basis for racism and white supremacy in order to receive the monetary support from wealthy southerners. in other words, their motivation was greed. That is why the Southern Baptist Convention broke away from the larger American Baptist Church in the 1850s and modified its theology to support slavery and racism.

I'll never understand why some people with lighter skin think that makes them better somehow. Never.
