LINK If Knoxville Kids Skip Class for Bible Study, Satanists Want in on the Action | Hemant Mehta | Friendly Atheist | Patheos

This semester, the Knox County Public Schools in Tennessee is conducting a pilot program in which parents can allow their kids to leave school an hour early, one day a month, in order to attend religious classes with The Church at Sterchi Hill (about two miles away). The program is sponsored by the church and the school district has nothing to do with it, per se, except to say they won’t punish the kids for leaving early if they’re part of the program.

I get that it's Tennessee but do they have to promote more mentally retarded behavior on school time?

I see a lawsuit from the FFRF and satanist.

Oh yes

If a state school with federal funds allows one, it needs to allow the other by law.

Love the logo, how fun, here’s hoping at least some people on the local Parent and Teacher Association have a sense of humour!

This is wrong for public schooling. There should be no provision to leave school early for this. It means the school is giving full reign to the church doing the program and this is not permitted by law. Let these kids go to Sunday School in a church if their choice.

Easy to see why Satanists want in on the action. It points out how wrong this is.
