The best that can be said for it at this time in history is that we look to the U.S. and see that they appear to have elected a new royal family, what with the corruption, law breaking and nepotism that is currently unfolding there!!
To me that means that an unsophisticated, superstitious population will apparently invent themselves a royal family anyway and that at least ours is ringfenced by parliament whereas nobody appears to be able to limit the power of a Trump, Putin or Kim Jong Un.
It seems that the British public need their mommy and daddy still!!
