Even as Trump energized the "Stupid Party" that Gov. Bobby Jindal once confessed to being a member of, smaller versions of conspiracy crazed crackpots continue to be supported by the faithful citizens of Trumplandia in Washington and the State Houses.

In his 2009 book, "Idiot America: How Stupidity Became a Virtue in the Land of the Free," Charles Pierce cites the research of Professor Andrew Cline of Washington University in St. Louis, who came up with 4 rules for modern pundits, some of whom appear to have advised Trump and his minions:

1. Never be dull.
2. Embrace willfully ignorant simplicity.
3. The American public is stupid--treat them that way.
4. Always ignore the facts and the public record when it is convenient to do so.

While it might seem as though recent events point to a turning tide, one cannot ever count out Idiot America, whose zombie-like stubbornness is surpassed only by its lack of intellectual curiosity!
