I bought my Commodore Amiga 2000 in 1990 -- it still works great ! 
I have an eight yro DVD/VHS player still works fine.
My 12 yro 42" Panasonic plasma TV ($50 from Craigslist) works great.
When the support expires, so should all patents and copyrights. This will enable third parties to provide parts and support.
