LINK RNC Quits Commission on Presidential Debates : NPR

(The problem being that the commission insisted on equal time, and turn off mikes when someone, almost always a republican, interrupted the other candidate. In short, they just won't stand for fairness and letting democrats answer questions of voice their (more rational) views.)

In 1987, the Commission on Presidential Debates was established jointly by the Democratic and Republican parties to ensure that debates between the leading candidates for the President of the United States were a permanent part of the electoral process.

Now, the Republican National Committee has voted unanimously to leave the CPD, ending more than three decades of bipartisan civic cooperation.

I always thought the real purpose of the CPD, after taking the debates away from the League Of Women Voters, was to keep third party candidates out of the debates, which is what they successfully did to Nader, twice. It would be hilarious if the debates now began to have the Dem candidate and a third party candidate, but I won't hold my breath.

Republicans no longer give a damn about civility, civilization, rules or fairness.

I would like to see the Dem candidate debate a socialist third party candidate, but that would never be allowed by the Dems. I hate this guy's idea of catering to the Libertarians. I hate them even more than the Repubs.. I would just as soon see the Dem Party destroyed as the Repubs. We need more socialism, not more neoliberal Dems.
