Carlin was always funny, but he definitely got better with age.

This clip is funny, but it's not his best work. I prefer his later stuff, when he really tears into religion and politicians.

This was network TV in the mid-70s, so he was restricted in what he could talk about. His later work was on cable networks, so he had free rein on both language and topics he could cover. Without Carlin and Lenny Bruce, we never would have had Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, or Bill Maher today....

To me, he was always funny, the difference was that later in his career, he talked about politics and the system, which to most people, isn't as funny...
